Title: PAYING FOR WEB HOSTING
Post by: iloilo on September 27, 2007, 10:34:46 am
We need to take up a collection for web hosting.
You can use PayPal or gold or FRNs or whatever, but we really need some help from the members here to get enough bandwidth not only for our present needs, but also to grow in the future.

What say you???
(See feralfae with hand held out and supplicating expression on her face).

I'm going to keep track of donations by modifying this post. Our goal is $300, which is what it costs for five years of nearly unlimited hosting at site5.com, the current host of billstclair.com.

I'm going to include names here unless you request that your donation be anonymous. feralfae neglected to include any contact information. I'm going to play point man for this, but if you prefer to send money to feralfae or Elias Alias, I'm sure they'll be happy to send it to me. Once I've got the bucks, I'll start the process of moving the forums to the new hosting service, where we'll have plenty of room for expansion.

$300 for 5 years is dirt cheap considering that this is a forum, and it's at least a few gigs on disk.....and folks park here so bandwidth requirements are gonna' be high too

Just fer shitz n' gigglez there folks, might I suggest that if perchance a surplus comes in, that it gets used to help pay off the sale price of TCF?

Amazing! We're there already, and mostly from the Moderator family. Talk about putting your money where your mouth is...

I instructed PayPal to transfer the money to my bank account, which they said will take 3-4 business days, and should be complete by next Wednesday afternoon. As soon as it gets there, I'll open a site5.com account, and transfer our code and a datbase sample over there. Then I'll tell people how they can check it out to make sure it looks good. Then one night, I'll flip the switch, and we'll have a new home.

Yowza!

That was one of the balls in the air Zoot, I had to wait for Debra/Claire to make a paypal or other means available to donate to, and then Rawles, and then the JRC newsletter as well as assorted late arriving bills from the NC meetup.

So now I can just donate here, and it will go to Claire, and then the JRC thing will also become clear as well.

YES !!!
Let's get this forum paid for us.
Okay, I think I can send a little more toward that next goal.
This reminds me of Ron Paul, where we reached the half mil goal easily, so now we are going for a cool mil in funding before the end of the quarter.  (hint, hint -- but only after you help out here  -- charity begins at home, you know  )

Wow!  I am so glad you see the inherent and potential good of this forum.
...and 180:  Age?  Address?  Weight?  Number of pages already written on next best-selling novel?

I just love it when someone sets my curiosity to stalking the answer(s).

Welcome, thank you, hope to see you here often.

That was quick.

I'm going to have to beg off for a bit. I'm currently looking for work, so I need to hold onto funds until the tide changes. I'm working on that, though, and have a few possibilities.

A hearty thanks to all who kicked in so quickly.

The donation money for the new hosting service has showed up in my bank account as a "Pending" transaction. I expect it will become complete and available to me tomorrow or Wednesday, at which time I'll purchase the 5 year hosting account at site5.com and get started moving our bits and setting up a test forum.

The money got to me, so I acquired a new hosting account at site5.com.

I quoted the price from memory, and got it wrong. The $5/month hosting requires two years up front, not five. So I paid $120 today, as reflected in my post at the beginning of this topic. That leaves us a balance of $305.01. If somebody who donated feels misled, I'll be happy to return 180/300 (60%) of your donation. Otherwise, I'll send the balance to Claire in payment for the boards.

You can look at the board, restored from the 9/30 backup, at http://74.54.2.69/forums/ . The user id and password you use here should work there. Any changes you make there will be overwritten when we go live. It's probably faster now than it will be once we switch over and it's under load, but tell me what you think. I haven't transferred the database for the wiki yet. Nor have I worked on SSL access (https). I probably can't actually do that until after the switchover, but it shouldn't take long. It might also cost a few bucks, so I may take a little more of the donation money for that.

All's generally well. I got an "incorrect theme directory" msg, but it didn't hurt functionality.
Text was a bit larger, a bit blacker, o-wise fine.

Thanks, Junker. I fixed the theme directory and a few others.

The wiki is up at http://74.54.2.69/wiki/Wolfekipedia . As with the forum, changes you make there will be overwriiten, so only change things to test that it works. There are some forwarding issues that I know about, e.g. http://74.54.2.69/wiki gets you back to thementalmilitia.com. Not going to bother with analyzing this until after the switch.

TJRC now has a bank account. Anyone can send checks or money orders. We can deposit, then send to Claire.

We could still use some donations to help pay off Claire, too.
I think Debra is closing the box there soon, so remember, you can send to TMM:

Make check or money order payable to: "B. Kallestad"

Mail checks / money orders to:

TMM
P.O. Box 71
Willow Creek, MT 59760

On behalf of Claire, I thank you sincerely.

Salute!

How much is still owed to Claire if you don't mind my asking?

padre29,
Thank you for asking about that. I'm sure others here would like to know the balance due to Claire. I should have already thought of posting the "count-down" as monies come in.

I do not think that Claire would want the original sale price to be made known, so if you would pardon me for being somewhat vague, I will state discretely that the figure was in the four-digit range when we began sending payments to Claire. By now the figure should be something over nine hundred dollars - so we've got a distance to go to complete the transaction. Less than a thousand dollars, but more than nine hundred dollars - the balance due is somewhere between those numbers, to the best of my knowledge at this moment.

Claire updates me from time to time as money arrives at Debra's address, PayPal, or at Claire's place. I can give a sort of "count-down" here on this thread to keep members updated on our progress.

Claire, Debra, TMM and TJRC are very grateful to all who have helped so far, and to all who would like to help but cannot at this time, and to all who shall help in coming times. I, personally, am grateful for the kindness and generosity of so many members who have sent money for Claire and have in so doing helped Claire Wolfe enhance her personal freedom. They have also enabled TMM/TJRC to go forward with paying for the boards, which I trust in times to come shall be helpful to many individuals in enhancing their personal freedom.

I'm in touch with Claire regularly, and I'll note the progress as we pay this commitment down and fulfill it. After we pay for the Forums, then everyone can send all their extra money to the Ron Paul 2008 campaign fund, right? :)

Salute!
Elias

Thanks Elias, I have "Debtaphobia" concerning things financial, and would like to see that debt ut to bed as it were.

Know what you mean. I also have "debtaphobia", and prefer to be debt-free, but since I closed my store and took up the Freedom Outlaw's way of life, I've found that I am not able to get out of debt as easily as I could in the past, back when I had a cash flow going on. I do not like owing, and yet I owe one man here fifty bucks for a couple of years, and have struggled to find that money to send him. (I survive on a modest part-time job here.) I'm sometimes late (again) paying my rent - While 'm usually current on rent, power bill, and phone bill, I can be late if any little unexpected thing comes along. I've had three small businesses during the past four decades, and I truly do miss having the ability to pay my way as I go, which was a benefit of having those businesses. So what I've done since the end of 1999, when I went middle-aged crazy and shut down my source of income for to move to Montana and enlist in the 2nd American Revolution, is to try real hard to NOT obligate myself in any way - for I know that I'll have to depend upon small miracles to pay off any debt I incur.

I conferred with some of my friends here before committing to Claire and Debra to buy the Forums. I figured I'd just rely upon a group effort to pay for the deal. That, and a small miracle.

I've just mentioned "small miracles" twice in this one post, so allow me to tease just a bit, if you please.

Back in this past Spring of '07, a "small miracle" happened. I'll be vague.

It is like a chrysalis - it was slowly woven, one weekend at a time, with each weekend constituting another strand in the project, and it is slowly completing itself as if by design, and it is apparently going to be the basis for my fourth (and LAST! I promise!) small business. The worm doth turn, inside this chrysalis, and this worm is quite lovely. It is truly a miracle of sorts, but a natural miracle. This worm is growing silently a pair of wings, upon which it shall fly free once it breaks out of its chrysalis. It is based on a discovery made by our very own Basil Fishbone.

And what Basil Fishbone discovered can be tweaked by your humble servant into something very marketable yet noble and containing an inherent and perpetual value. So Basil and I are doing the leg-work to set up a most unusual and un-regulated small business. Nothing big, nothing extravagant, and there won't be a lot of money, but there should be enough money to round-out TJRC's office needs (including my dream of a video-editing studio), pay off my debt to Claire and Debra, pay my patient friend that fifty bucks I've owed him for so long, pay the costs of issuing The Jefferson River Gazette in hard-copy, and make a lot of people happy by providing something beautiful and lasting which they can own themselves.

We have a name for the business, and Claire knows about it generally. Keep your ears open in coming months and you'll likely enjoy the surprise when we post-up here our inaugural announcement and declare we're "open for business".

Salute!
Elias

Ahh Elias, thou tongue doth speak wonderous things, I however, am from the "Show me the money" line of inelegance an accoutnig background and perhaps too much Ed Romney for my own good..

So that being said, I'll match donations up to 200 (in total if someone donates 50, I donate 50 up to two hundred dollars total) that will add up to 400 towards the payment of the mortgage on TMM.

I work for a living of course, so this is my .02 cents worth of sweat towards TMM Elias as reconfiguring web pages is not my cup of tea, and webhosting has already been paid for upfront before I could contribute.

Careful Zoot, I snore and generally make a nuisance of myself.

Not only do I despise "debt" but I also really don't like outstanding obligations to people, especaillay friends, so if this isn't payed off in a few months, I'll pony up.

I would like to see a Christian/Remnant type forum here, but that is just me.

Cheers!

True, but in a textual forum, it is hard to make the typed word the same as the in person words.

I want to keep this thread on top so people will see it and help out and also meet Padre's wonderful challenge!
We still need to finish paying off the debt.

In response to a couple of you who emailed me: yes, you are helping to buy a forum you do not own, but think of it as buying a ticket to play here :-).   Sort of like Disneyworld, with better rides.

And I do not think that Elias or anyone else who is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of these boards is going to make any changes - other than growth changes - or do anything different from the past.  I think you will be delighted with the direction, continuity and content here.  (Buy a ticket, please!)

So, buying your ticket will keep you, and everyone else here, in the game.  We really need these boards as a place to share ideas and network, and I hope you will kick in and help meet the matching offer Padre has made!

(snip)

In response to a couple of you who emailed me: yes, you are helping to buy a forum you do not own, but think of it as buying a ticket to play here :-).  (snip)

Nicely said, ff. Also, I would like to add to your appeal this one way in which I see this transaction. What the money is for is really for Ms Claire Wolfe.

Why I can say that is because Claire offered to give me the Forums for free. She did that because TMM once gave the Forums to her for free, and she wanted to reciprocate once I had showed an interest in purchasing the Forums. She is one very fine woman and a true friend, and she always keeps her personal honor foremost. And because she has always been a good friend to me, I did not want her to simply give me the Forums - especially when I knew she wanted to sell the Forums for money only to use the money to spring herself to a new level of personal freedom.

Therefore, I thanked her for her offer to give me the Forums and insisted that The Jefferson River Coalition and The Mental Militia wanted to pay her asking price, (which I had learned from her before I offered to buy the Forums). She is my friend and I wanted to give all our mutual friends and Coalition members and Mental Militia members an opportunity to give something back to this woman for all the endless hours of dedicated work for liberty she has given us over the years.

So it's really a group effort to help spring Claire Wolfe to her next level, and I trust she will achieve greater capabilities for expressing her creativity as a writer and artist as well as her new approach to self-discovery. I am very happy for Claire, and I'm very happy for TJRC and TMM and for myself personally. While the boards are my personal liability, I have surrounded myself with the most wonderful group of people in both TJRC and TMM, and also from the Claire Files message boards. So it occurred to me to have things two ways at once. First, I'm the guy who should bear any legal liabilities for what goes down here at the Forums - the FBI can talk to me about their problems, or whatever. But Secondly, I'm giving the actual boards, sans the legal liabilites, to The Jefferson River Coalition and to its subsidiary, The Mental Militia.

Claire was in The Mental Militia long before we created The Jefferson River Coalition, and she wanted to see TMM's name atop the front page here, so I went with that name instead of The Jefferson River Coalition.

So - Bottom line: This place belongs to the members here in every way except the legal liabilities which come with this kind of turf. I'll take the heat on that, and you all can just carry on as always. No single member here is required to pay anything to be a part of this community. But all members here are invited to participate in setting Ms Claire Wolfe free to embark upon her next path in life. It's an invitation. And it's an opportunity to send a message to Claire that her work has effected many people's lives in positive ways, and that we are grateful.

So your gifts to Claire can be seen as buying a ticket, as ff put it above, and they can also be seen as an overt act of liberty on Claire's behalf, and they can also be seen as something one may wish to do for oneself. The way I see it, everyone comes out looking good, and everyone gets what they would like to receive for being a member here. My thanks go out to all who would like to support Claire's move to finer fields of liberty. And I remain deeply appreciative to all the original TMM members who've weathered the years with me and are still willing to go the extra mile in keeping TMM, and now also TJRC, operating in the name of personal liberty. I am a blessed man, and I'm grateful.

And in case anyone was wondering, the answer is yes - Claire will remain a member here and she intends to drop by to visit us from time to time.

Cheers to all who've given already, and cheers to all who shall give soon, and cheers to all who would like to give but cannot afford to. And cheers to those brave souls who have demonstrated their friendship with me and their commitment to fight for liberty by helping me in this adventure. And, being the happy sort of soul I am, I also am raising my glass with cheers for those who do not want to continue on here.  Our intent is to make everyone welcome, to right previous errors in judgment which offended some, and to unite everyone's commitment to self-discovery and the passion for personal freedom which dawns on everyone who does come to know themselves in the innermost center of their hearts and souls.

Salutes with gratitude and celebration!
Elias

Thank you so much for your gift to Claire and for the good words. I'm glad you're here, and I'm glad you enjoy membership here. Now you can put padre29 to work on his promise, lol! Another member has PM'd me with a pledge similar to yours, so padre29 is getting in deeper now. :)

Regarding sending the payment, if you want to send cash, please use the TMM address as given on this thread. But if you want to send a check or money order, or pay by PayPal, then please use Claire's and Debra's payment system. I think it is on this thread, but I'll check to make sure and if it is not on this thread I'll post it here for you. I sure do appreciate your generosity.

Thanks again, my friend.

And Semper Fi bachatcha, GreenArrow! Thanks again. I just skimmed over a couple of threads where I thought I could find Debra's snail address, but I did not see it. I am sure I've seen that address around here somewhere recently, so I'll continue to look for it so I can post it here. I'd prefer that when possible payments be sent to Debra directly, but if you're wanting to send check, money order, or cash quickly, then use the TMM address please.

TMM

If you're not in a hurry to send, keep an eye on this thread and I'll soon have Debra's snail addy up here. I just went to Claire's site and Debra's The Claire Files dot com and noticed that I cannot access either site, (where I thought I'd look for swift results in finding Debra's addy). So I'll keep hunting for that addy here at the Forums. If anyone else knows where to find that, please post Debra's PayPal account info here, and Debra's snail address here. Thanks!

I've exchanged emails with Claire. She says that you can still donate via PayPal, e-gold, or the Amazon Honor System, via the donations page at http://billstclair.com/clairewolfe.com/donations.html . Please do NOT send anything to Debra's snail mail address on that page (which I may end up removing). Four out of five donations sent to that address didn't get there.

So for snail mail donations, use the address that Elias posted above.

I'm also happy to take donations at my PayPal address, bill at billstclair dot com. I'll track all such donations in my post near the top of this topic (by name unless you ask to be listed as "anonymous"), and send them to Claire, likely via a transfer to the orders at clairewolfe dot com PayPal account.

Hey-hey! I received two snails in the mails!

One from Minnesota, and one from California.

One snail carried a check, and the other carried a money order.

I thank you both very sincerely. I'll give those to B. Kallestad and she'll deposit them in TJRC's account, then when the check clears we'll draw out the payments and send to Claire directly.

I'll continue to watch the post office box for a couple more snails. (Two other members here have notified me that they're sending some money for Claire.)

I want each of you to know that Claire will appreciate your generous support in her new stage of life. And I appreciate your contributions to the cause of liberty. We are a bunch of good people. :)

Blessings on all of ye!

Not current, but it will be time to raise money again soon. The two years we paid for is up at the end of September, and we'll need at least $120 for another two years. It appears that there a $4.95/month plan we can move to if we pay for at least two years.

I just looked at the post I used to keep track of the donations two years ago: https://thementalmilitia.com/forums/index.php?topic=15435.msg201839#msg201839

The balance is over $200, money that was paid to my PayPal account. So it looks like the $120 for the next two years of hosting is already paid, and is in my keeping.

Somehow I missed the Site5 invoice for renewing our account, so they suspended it. Noticed that pretty quickly, paid the $120, noted the payment here (https://thementalmilitia.com/forums/index.php?topic=15435.msg201839#msg201839), and we're back online for another two years.

In my experience, problems with web sites are usually technical or managerial in nature. Yes, the feds shut down web sites. But other problems are much more common.

This $120 was still covered by the money donated two years ago. The link in my last post contains an accounting of my use of that money.

I deposited $20 in the backup server account, and added it to the accounting here (https://thementalmilitia.com/forums/index.php?topic=15435.msg201839#msg201839). That's running about $8/month, mostly for storage. Maybe I should move it somewhere cheaper. I could probably afford the space on my billstclair.com server (in Panama). We're paying more for the backup server than hosting ($60/year for hosting).

Heh. The Bullwinkle excerpt was my memory set off by being about to say "this time for sure" about moving the backup to my web server in Panama, where it will be free. But since I failed to do that last time I said it, I figured I shouldn't promise anything.

There's still money in the bank for running the site. Don't expect to need more until we need to renew the web server account in September of 2011.

I've made some progress on this. I created a new account on my web server, copied the bits from the current backup server, created the backup databases, and made them work. Later today or tomorrow, I'll likely switch the backup code here to use the new backup server. Then I can delete the bits from the old server, and end $3-$5 per month of storage charges from Nearly Free Speech.

This is a virtual server at hub.org in Panama. What I've already paid them for web hosting will cover the extra 300-500 megabytes of storage and daily bandwidth to do the backup. Cost to me: zero.

Well, we tried that a couple of years back, forming the "techies" group, with our own section of the boards. But it never went very far.

The kitty is down to $87 (see the second post in this topic), and I need to renew the domain on September 10 for $9 and pay for two more years of hosting on October 1 for $120. So another $50 to $100 of donations would be nice. That's 10 times $10 or 20 times $5. Or one really generous person.

Paypal: bill@billstclair.com
Pecunix: bill@billstclair.com
Snail mail: ask me via PM

Let me know if you want your donation to be anonymous. Otherwise, please tell me your board nym along with your donation.

I PM'd you my snail mail address, Mama Liberty. Anyone else who wants to send cash, check, or money order, PM, and I'll send it.

We're hosting with site5: http://www.site5.com/hosting/web/ . We appear to be grandfathered in for $5/month with dedicated IP. Everything else but that is still available for $4.95/month (prepayed for 24 months), if you only need one web site. More web sites, or dedicated IP, cost more.

OT question Bill.

How much would it cost to purchase a server and host ourselves?

second half of question [ you knew it was coming didn't you? ]

How much more [or less] labor is it to serve ourselves vs being hosted by some other person or group?

Are there other "demons" involved?

[have I used up my question quota?]

Thanks For All you do for us here at TMM.

That $10.50 per month pays for a virtual private server, on which we have root access. I.e. we can do anything we want there, as long as we don't go over our RAM, disk, or bandwidth quota, which we haven't done yet. Very good deal. I can't imagine doing better than that. Machines cost at least $500, and then you have to pay for a space to put it and an internet connection. This way, we don't have to worry about the machine. They keep the physical machine running and we get our slice of it. Simple.

I recently made a separate PayPal account for thementalmilitia@google.com. It has my contact info on it, which doesn't bother me, since I'm already in league with that particular devil. It isn't connected to any bank accounts or credit cards, but it should work for paying AlienVPS and NearlyFreeSpeech.net for our hosting, and those who DO have Paypal accounts can directly donate money there, instead of sending it to my personal PayPal account (and I made that change to the second post in this thread).

I think you answered this once, but I don't remember what you said...

Is there some compelling reason why we can't pay them $126. for 12 months? Then you wouldn't have to remember or fool with it every month. Most places even give a discount if you pay a full year. Just curious.

I don't remember the numbers, but my discount wasn't much... The beauty was only having to remember to pay it once a year. I simply hate monthly bills. The auto payment thing is a great invention, and all I have to do is read the email sent out each month and make sure it's functioning. But you do whatever works for you, of course. I just always squirm a bit when I read this, thinking of the time you are spending. If it's necessary, and/or if you don't mind... then ignore me. :)

1) Paypal to thementalmilitia@gmail.com
2) Snail mail to me personally, usually cash in an envelope. PM me for my address.

Remember, though, we're not burning much money now. Web hosting is paid up for a year, our domain costs less than $10/year, and I pay a few cents a day to NearlyFreespeech.net for DNS and domain privacy.

First, you should have zero out of pocket expense for any of this.
Second, we can't know what might happen in the future, maybe suddenly. It just doesn't hurt to have a bean or three set aside for an emergency. Take the FRNs and convert them to your favorite non-perishable OTHER stuff, and put it in a box with our name on it if you like. :)  Then, we can use it when we need to, or whatever. The beauty of it is that even those who can't contribute much can still contribute and know it's meaningful without worrying that everything will fall apart if they don't put in more right away.

Sort of like why I have more than 200 pounds of sea salt in the store room. I'll never use that much salt, but you just never know when it might come in handy. :)

This leaves the Paypal balance at $221.02 and the NFS balance at $13.77. The NFS account costs a few cents a day for domain ownership privacy and DNS services. I paid Digital Ocean, our web hosting service, $25 from the Paypal account. We were down to less than $5 credit left from the $120 Elias Alias donated in August of 2013. So we'll last for almost three months before I need to pay them again ($10/month). Elias has said that he's likely to be able to give another $100 by then.

Our Paypal balance is now $191.02

Au Contraire my Crazy Devil friend*.

Bill is already giving of his time, expertise and physical efforts on Our Behalf and at the fantastical, absolutely amazing sum of $0.00 per month.
(at last check and no complaints to date you will note.)

It behooves US (the beneficiaries of his time, expertise and efforts) to make the minimal effort to check on this page every so often and to donate from time to time as finances allow and necessity decree.

Oh and while I am here ... Thanks yet again Bill for all you do hereabouts.

Looks like time to collect some more hosting funds. Elias will likely provide some, since he has personal web sites hosted in the same Digital Ocean virtual machine, but if a dozen people could donate $10 apiece, we're golden for a year of hosting.

Paypal to thementalmilitia@gmail.com or PM me for my snail mail address, and I'll deposit to Paypal.

Bill,
As soon as we start taking dues payments I will build up a better "cushion" for these types of charges. Right now I'm flat busted/broke. I have announced the movie project over in the MindWar forum, and will try to announce the new website officially by this coming weekend, in hopes of doing some fundraising. The earliest I can count on getting any more FRNs is about a week into April, at which time I can make a substantial contribution. But if the site goes "live" sooner and we start taking in dues payments, then everything will be much easier. Also, as the movie project is a TMM project, the donations which will come in from that project will go to TMM LLC's general fund, which will back-up any costs of online activity with our several sites.
So at the moment, you and I must remain "tight", but this should be the last time we'll have to concern ourselves with the costs of keeping the sites going.
Thank you for all you do, Bill.
And my thanks to all the others who have been helping keep the place open all these years. Awesome!
Salute!
Elias

Thanks, Elias.

Note that thementalmilitia.com (these forums) AND thementalmilitia.net (the new TMM site) are running on a single $10/month Digital Ocean virtual machine (VM). That will handle quite a bit of traffic, but it's possible that we'll need to upgrade, probably by moving thementalmilitia.net to its own VM. That will raise the monthly cost, by probably $20. And if THAT doesn't handle the traffic, it's a problem you'll be happy to have. More money for more Processors/RAM will solve it, and you'll HAVE that money from all those visitors.

Yup. That's how I'm readin' it Bill. When we look at all the connections we'll have for spreading the word about our operation, I'm thinking that it will be a pleasure to have to pay for additional VM space. After my visit with G. Edward Griffin this weekend I'm absolutely certain that we're heading for success. He likes what we're doing and wants to play with us. That is huge, and is also a great "sign".  I am trying to work on memberships tonight, so I can have Cindy activate that system, and when we get that done, I'll send out the first email blast to kick things off. We are getting very close to launch time now.

Awesome, jamie. I'm glad to see that you're appreciative of Mr. Griffin's works. He did like our idea of doing psy-ops on behalf of freedom, and did tell me several times that he thinks we should work togther because his Freedom Force International and TMM are both trying to do the same thing, basically. His "Creature" book changed my life in a positive way many years ago, so I was delighted to have the chance to meet him.

For others reading here who do not know about G. Edward Griffin, here is his page at TMM --

Actually, we're now in pretty good shape. Elias donated for hosting. I put $25 in our Digital Ocean account and $55 in our Paypal account.

Digital Ocean balance: $33.20, about 3 months worth.
Paypal balance: $94.27

We may be adding another $10/month to the account, to host Elias' new Jewelry web site, so the money may start going faster, meaning that balance will last for only 4 months, but I'm pretty sure Elias will continue paying.

Not that I want to discourage donations, so I'll PM you that snail mail address.

Thank you Bill.
And, yes, I will be continuing to send money to keep the forums funded.
I will say, however, that members here who have contributed do take some of the load off my back, and each of you is dearly appreciated.
As I quit my job this past November 03, 2016, at Oath Keepers, I'm without an income. But I am working on three projects, any one of which could help spring me to better situations. The jewelry project is the surest bet, but I've got to raise a few thousand dollars to get my shop fully equipped and set up. That is gong to take several months, as it appears to me at this time.
I have begun to make TMMers at the national website aware of my jewelry background, which I've not worked in since I started with Oath Keepers seven years ago. There is an explanation of how I got into jewelry design work while being a gold caster for the Dental industry, and some photographs of pieces I've made in the past.
Y'all are welcome to enjoy.
Jewelry: Before The Revolution --  https://thementalmilitia.net/2016/12/23/jewelry-before-the-revolution/
There are three inactive links in the middle of that article, and one which is completed. I'll get the other three up this week.
When I launch my new jewelry business it will be under the name "Silver Seeds of Lbierty". Bill has obtained the domain name for that. There is much to be done, and I'm old and slow, but I get something done each passing day, and things are building nicely. 2017 will be a good year for this old hippy/artist/revolutionary. ;)

Also please note -- anyone who donates to the "ernie movie project" is also helping cover all other TMM projects. The donate button is under the trailer here --  https://thementalmilitia.net/ernie/

Those of you who pay dues to the national site are also helping all other TMM projects. I am devoted to taking TMM to the top this year, and it's going to happen. I am not in a hurry with that, but I see it building sorta "behind the scenes". Claire Wolfe, for example, just sent TMM's recent newsletter to her list, and that is generating good interest.

Also in the works is Lionsgate. This past week I summed up over a month's worth of writing about the proposed television series and sent it to them in Los Angeles. It will take them several weeks or longer to absorb all I sent them, and I don't mind saying that I worked my ass off trying to figure out how to present my perspective on a story-line for the series. But I finally got that done and now the ball is in their court. They still have several months on their contract with me and ernie, and both ernie and self will gladly extend that contract if necessary while Lionsgate Studios is trying to sell the idea to a TV network. Y'all keep your fingers crossed for us, okay? If Lionsgate chances to actually land an agreement with any network, TMM will never again have to worry about how the bills will be paid. Some months ago I thought that our odds were about thirty / seventy, but now I feel that our odds are greatly improved that we will actually get an "unscripted docu-series" through Lionsgate. If Lionsgate does land a network to carry it, Lionsgate will fund and produce the entire series. At present time, Lionsgate still wants to move forward with doing this, so we shall see how things go. Believe me, y'all will hear it loudly and clearly if it happens, lol.

One other thing -- those of you who have sent me money in the past three months while I have not had a job are each very deeply appreciated. Thank you each and all!

Bill, I want to publicly thank you for carrying the load here and at my other sites. You are appreciated.

Happy New Year!
Salute!
Elias

Get hold of me, Elias(since I haven't received an email from you in a coon's age), and I'll start chipping in some.  Probably the least I can do after 18 years...

Wow! It's great to hear from you 2ndA! I've wondered how you're holding up -- it's been way too long since we talked! I've missed you! I trust your health has improved. Mine has gone the full spectrum, but I'm still alive and kickin'.

We can certainly use some help with funding these forums, and I could use some help funding The Mental Militia dot Net. Check out our history there --  https://thementalmilitia.net/2015/12/12/history-of-the-mental-militia/

I'll send an email to the email address on your profile here, but just in case, you can reach me at eliasalias@thementalmilitia.net

Thank you for stepping up, Bro. Let's catch up sometime, eh?
Salute!
Elias

Thank you for the update on the money situation, Bill.
I am still unemployed, cannot raise grocery money here, but am close to having my new workshop completed. I cannot do anything until I find some way to get in a little more money to complete my shop. Am out of silver and guns to sell, have nothing left to sell except for some nice specimen of Montana Opalwood, so it's anyone's guess as to how long it will take me to get my shop up and running.  Sheesh! The irony is that once I get the shop completed I can begin to make money, and I am very close now to having that shop completed. However, for the lack of just a few hundred more dollars, the whole shop is just sitting here .... waiting. I can work on wax models, but cannot take those wax models and cast them into silver or gold until I get a few more necessities, such as investing powder with which to make the casting mold.
Am saying my affirmations, which have carried me for many years, and patiently awaiting life's next adventure. My computer just crashed this week, but I've got this old computer which I wore out years ago, and it's still working, if a bit slowly.  One thing I'm sure of -- if and when I can get my jewelry casting shop up and running, I'll never be broke again. That is a promise I'm making to myself here and now. It was not such a smart idea to quit jewelry work to try my hand at writing for the liberty movement, because as I can see after eight years of trying to make a living as a writer, I'm not that good. But I am good at designing and casting fine jewelry, so am fortunate to be able to get back to work creating jewelry. I'll keep you posted, Bill, and will send money as soon as I can find some.

Thanks Bro,

Yeah, well, Blessings on You! Thanks ML.
But for the record, I can't get *back* on track, as I doubt seriously if I've ever been *on* the track in the first place, lol!
I'll make it, but I'm grateful to you and all who keep this place going while I'm being crazy.  You never know -- I could end up being on the Caravan To Midnight show...

In early May, I'll be able to pay $10 for one more month, but then the account will be dry.

How do I donate?

PayPal to thementalmilitia@gmail.com or PM me for a snail mail address for cash or check.

If you don't have a PayPal account, but would like to pay with a credit card, I can ask PayPal to email you an invoice, which you can pay with that credit card (just learned that yesterday).

I have wondered about using WebRTC to offset bandwidth by having users automatically host images from the page. I have heard that its been done but have not looked into it. You might check it out. Let me know if it works out for you.

Interesting idea, but we get hugely more bandwidth from our $10/month than we use, so we don't need any offset. We used 31 gigabytes of our 2,000 gigabyte allotment last month.
