Title: Foreign Enemies and Traitors by Matthew Bracken
Post by: socalserf on February 28, 2009, 07:59:04 am
I couldn't find a thread for this author so I started this one.

I've read this guy's first two books,

Enemies Foreign and Domestic, and
Domestic Enemies, The Reconquista.

Both were excellent, although the second book had some parts that were certainly lurid.

He will soon release (March 2009) his third book in this same series.

Foreign Enemies and Traitors.
The excerpt was good reading and can be found here;

I ordered my copy back in January. Looking forward to it. Thoroughly enjoyed the first two.

I bought the first book on the strength of the first half, which was posted on his web site. Unfortunately the second half was much weaker. The second book he went off into "Turner Diaries" terrirtory, and from what I've heard the third is even worse.

Khagler, Ive read the Turner Diaries. It is full of racist crap with no redeeming qualities. For you to compare Domestic Enemies to the Turner Diaries is, in my opinion, not only way off mark but also very insulting (not to me personally but to the author). If you didn't like the book, fine. But to compare it to that garbage is just wrong. I didn't pick up a whiff of racism in his books other than to show that it was a characteristic of some of the bad guys. Please don't damage a fellow freedom-lover's reputation and livelihood with accusations that aren't well grounded. Anyway, there's my two cents.

I got it. I read it. In fact, I reread the first 2 right before so got it all in a big chunk.

A large part of me was going, "Wow. Holy shit! That makes sense. Ties everything up! Good read."

My inner literary critic had some things to say, but on the whole, it was in my opinion the best written of the 3. I liked 2 a lot because it deals with where I live and, while it had some good parts, on rereading I saw some plodding plot problems-- as I did 1. 3 has them as well, but the new young characters introduced help overcome that. I did wish that they had more of a central role tho, as their stories were the most compelling to me.

For the most part, tho, I enjoyed it very much and the 3 will remain part of my Lib fiction library. I only sell or trade in the crappy stuff like "The Justice Collective" or whatever the hell it was called....It sucked.

Matt, keep writing, son, and thanks.
