I've read several of your stories now (and still working on the rest), and you're as good as -- maybe better than -- O. Henry (which is saying a lot, being a fan of O. Henry as I am). Each in their own way -- touching, gritty, sad -- are all realistic, but not giving up, not compromising; the stuff of what makes a human so great.

Isn't there ANY way to put these in a book of short stories? You put some together and I'll try to publish them into book form.

What I can't do is charge money for stories I gave away freely, with massive joy.

My stories are my joy in life. The only payment I've ever desired is comments like yours. I'm not O. Henry. But O. Henry wasn't Fred Brown. This shit works out in the wash.

I can't put a price on joy. I'd rather just share it free.

But if we can put a few bucks towards Claire/Deb/Bill (the sites we love) I'm down for that.

Do you want them all in the book, or selected stories? Do you/Bill/Plinker have any particular order you want them in? I can start doing page layout now. (Will have to back off when the cookbook recipes begin to come in, however; that takes priority right now.)

George it breaks my heart that you can't or won't make money on your stories. I know, it doesn't break your heart, and that's a blessing -- as long as you get plenty of joy in payment for your creations.

If you don't want the proceeds from a lulu book, then this time let them go to Bill and/or Plinker who did all the work to collect and post them. I'm grateful for any donations to TCF. But in this case, the "payoff" to me (and I'm sure to Debra) is merely having your work here.

Pagan, you began a lovely project that you sent me via snail. You know the one I mean. Much as I like what you did (and I do like it), I say put George's project first.

George is quite simply one of the greatest short-story writers alive in the country today, in any genre, and his work deserves to be seen.

George, all I want from you is an autographed copy.

Pagan is more than welcome to a share. In fact I hereby give Pagan dictatorial control over all non-story related aspects of the as yet untitled George Potter project. I reserve the right to name the damn thing and the cover art has to be my friend K's. My little brother wants to draw a frontspiece. If anyone here would like to contribute a piece of art or anyting, feel free to chime in.

No, no,no. Let's not get carried away here.

1) I don't want dictatorial control over anything. Like Claire, I just think it should be put together for others to read, and I'm willing to do what I can.

2) I don't want any compensation for this. (Well, I wouldn't mind a few rounds of 145 gr. .357's for any future need of mine. :-)) Any income from the sale should be used as originally agreed upon.

3) You should name the book (after all, it's your book), and one and all should have a hand as you so stipulate. That's between you and them.
