Hmmm, just looked up wiki page on allicin, the apparent wünder-molecule in garlic. 

Melting point    <25 °C
Boiling point    decomposes

Whoops.  Next time will add chopped raw after - along with bell pepper.

Looked up tumeric, initial reading of its wünder-molecule(s) seems like it's OK to throw in the pot.

The onion's good stuff doesn't seem to be degraded either by cooking.

Apparently it's not the allicin (a wimpy molecule as it relates to human physiology) that is the good stuff in garlic - looks like it's OK to cook it without degrading anything that is good ...

Spam musubi. Basically it's grilled Spam slices on top of sushi rice. Add fresh pineapple to get Hawaiian.

Just made the most wonderful shepherd's pie. It has been many years since I made that. Just happened to have all the right leftovers to do it today. Cooked the onion in some butter, added the diced chicken, and then the reheated mixed vegetables. Didn't have quite enough mashed potatoes, but it worked out OK. Chicken and onion in the bottom of a pie pan, then spread the drained vegetables over that. Mashed potatoes on top by the spoonful, then spread evenly with a fork. Leave the fork marks in. Bake at 350 until it bubbles good, then put it under the broiler until the potatoes brown to your taste. I like them VERY brown myself.

Oh boy, was that good. I'm stuffed. :)
