Craig's Number - free anonymous call forwarding service
« on: December 20, 2006, 08:38:35 am »

http://www.craigsnumber.com/ assigns you a number, with 3-digit extension, that you can forward to another number that you enter. When someone calls the assigned number, a voice asks for the extension and records an introduction message. Then it calls the number you entered. When you answer, the same voice says you have a Craig's Number call, plays the caller's introduction, and asks you to "press one" if you want to accept the call. If you press one, you are connected. Otherwise not. The caller never knows your real number.

You can lease the forward for an hour, a day, or a week. The service is free. I don't know how they pay for it. Maybe a percent of the take for the caller's long distance call? Numbers are available in San Francisco, Dallas, and Washington, DC.

I tried it. It works.

Thank you Bill, that is awesome.  I have needed something like this on multiple occasions lately.  Very cool.
