Heads up FSW'rs
« on: February 01, 2007, 09:26:20 am »

Someone seems to have pissed of a local bureaucrat. A planner from Sundance, WY has started a thread over on Cyburbia.org

Planning vs. Free State radicals

Thanks for the input...We are on that track, letting them show thier ass in front of the pioneers of the county, their Van Nuys ways come to the surface like oil in water...we may just turn them over to homeland security since they seem to like to stand around on the courthouse porch with their guns strapped on....domestic terrorists plain and simple...yes, we are documenting everything in case of a lawsuit, so I do not make extemporaneous presentations to groups in the county, it is all written and I read it and note the where, when and who on the presentation and file it.

The statements that inspired ND's quoted remark are even more revealing -- and show exactly why we have so many projects currently attempting to take governments back:

Quote
How numerous are these Free Staters in your county? Are they a honest-to-God impediment, capable of controlling the process? Or are they just a vocal minority using the seagull strategy (flying in, making a lot of noise, and crapping on everything)?

If they are a super-vocal minority, the government listens to them, thanks them for their input, and then does what is right for the residents of the county.

If they are a majority, you listen to their concerns, seek to undertand and to be understood, bend a little if you can without forfeiting your fiduciary duties, then does what is right for the residents of the county.

Invite them to attend work sessions on the comp plan. In a work session the planning board has a lot more discretion about handling public comment. They are there to work, not listen to tirades against government. Allow them to comment, by all means, but only to ask questions or make comments. They may have legitimate concerns and helpful suggestions. But work sessions are not a place for soap box rants.

Just because they have a right to comment, does not give them a right to commandeer the process. Nor does it mean the governing body cannot require those commenting do so in a respectful and orderly process. Time limits can be placed on public testimony. People can be encouraged to provide written comment. Make sure you follow the statutory requirements, and maybe even go a little beyond what is required.

Hopefully the governing body in your jurisdiction has enough backbone to stand up and do what is right.

How's that for "democracy," eh? Yeah, "the people" have a right to be heard. But it's all just noise. We, the Bureaucrats, don't actually have to listen to anybody ...

That is one of the points that Limbaugh dude made way back when, The arrogance of the Gov't Bureacrats.  If you have a Majority Saying NO!, it is your job to comply, not "Make the right decision anyway".  Tar and feather time.

Oh my goodness, "They are acting like domestic terrorists, we already have called homeland security"

What a load of crapoloa, so Citizens acting within their rights are somehow "domestic terrorists"? Wouldn't that mean that the people who v*ted the people into office who hired this clown were domestic terrorists as well?

Either way, good on the FSW'ers, they have their attention now, even if TPTB are trying to get them to diffuse their efforts by attending "planning meetings" were they are treated very much like parrots in cages, they can speak just not too much, they can offer "ideas" (that reveal the attendee's state of mind BTW) but they won't listen to them.

I hope this "man" had to buy another box of prilosec to deal with his permanent heartburn.....  :brave:

??? Not seeing any lawbreaking going on. Sundance are you new to the west? Wyoming is an open carry state, part of the reason why the west part of the Free State movement split to go there. I think you must be thinking of the tax protestors or phony writ writers in Montana?

Using the public comment and work process is hardly illegal, even when it goes against what the professional planners want. I would have thought that the staff would appreciate some interested and motivated citizens. You are there to serve the residents, right??

These folks should read some history of this country. Armed rebellion has always been quashed. We cannot tolerate armed extremists threatening the puiblic health, safety and welfare.

Yeah, that American Revolution really got quashed. 2nd revolution would have won too, had Lincoln not thrown away the Constitution to keep the seccessionists in.

Seems at least one of them on that forum has his head screwed on more or less straight.

But we are all "lawbreakers" when the bureaucrats decide what the "laws" are at their own whim. They have made up their mind what is "good for the county" and they are never going to tolerate anything that doesn't fit into that plan - no matter who it hurts or how many tell them about it.

They may well see "guns strapped on" in future "meetings."

Now, where did I put that rope??? ......  ML

An interesting point made by a fellow FSWer. Here is this guys intro.

So he comes from a city, wonder which one, and then calls the kettle black.

By the way if you are interested in the background here is the FSW thread that has him jumping.

Well it didn't work for me from here either. I guess I should have checked that out. We have just redone some things over there and maybe links like that are no longer allowed ? ( looks like it only works as long as I'm logged in at both forums, as you can tell I'm not very good at all this tech stuff  )
So it looks like you will have to sign up to see it all ?

Calling all Crook County people

Or here is the jist of it :

The folks at the county sent out this notice in the local paper.

" Calling all Crook County citizens
Crook County Growth and Development is calling all citizens of Crook County for help and input into the direction the county will be taking in the near future. They are organizing a committee comprised of Crook County citizens that will meet periodically and brainstorm on the issues of things such as development, septic tanks, zoning, and other growth issues. Fred Duncan of Growth and Development says its essential citizens provide their two-cents by joining the committee. “We’re hoping to get people from all walks of life who want to have a say in how things are carried out with our new comprehensive growth plan we will be implementing sometime next year,” Duncan said Monday. “Ranchers, teachers, and all other Crook County citizens are urged to join.”
This committee is on a volunteer basis and Duncan says he plans on visiting all parts of the county at least once a month so the committee members don’t have to come to him. “It’s nice to get out of the office every once in a while anyway,” Duncan said. “This committee will have a significant influence on the direction the county will be taking.”
Duncan says the committee can meet in person, by phone, or through e-mail. He said a person only needs a computer or a telephone to be a part of the committee. Duncan will be glad to hear ideas, concerns, and suggestions from the citizens.
The citizens of Crook County often have many thoughts on issues dealing with growth and development and the Growth and Development office is ready and listening. The first meeting will be held January 9, 2007 in the basement of the courthouse and is open to the public. Here’s your chance to be a part of your county development. Remember, if you don’t have anything to say about it now, you can’t say anything about it later.
Citizens are encouraged to contact Fred Duncan or Tim Lyons for further information at the Growth and Development office at 307-283-4548, send them a fax at 307-283-4549, or e-mail them at fredd@crookcounty.wy.gov. Get out there and support your local growth and development."

Several of our members started a thread about going to the meeting, gathering support from others outside the FSW and handing out leaflets. The turnout was good and not expected by the government folks. And since things didn’t go as planned for the statists they weren’t happy.  After the meeting one of the FSW folks was even told his home might blow up.
Here is how the local paper covered the story but  much was left out.

http://www.sundancetimes.com/

So it looks like this could get a lot bigger ?

Of course, if you express anything outside their statist agenda you'll be branded a "domestic terrorist" and a subversive...

As of 01/27 none of those who signed up to be on that "committee" has received anything from the commission. But, the "commissioners" did meet in secret to pass a regulation against anyone further dividing their property. Not sure of the details, but they called it an "emergency" so they didn't have to bother listening to any of us "little people."

These snakes bear watching very closely.   ML

Another thing,
I had to laugh when I was thinking about the original post.  More specifically the guy quoted saying something about "The pioneers" in Crook County.

My Grandfather traveled on and open buckboard from Minnesota to California in the 1888, he was a pioneer.  Even he was in absolute awe of the guys who walked it.
Pompous asses who drive brand new Chevys and live in furnace heated homes insult them all by calling themselves pioneers.
