Rather Die Than Be Your Slave
I do not wish this life to pass away
But life presents such possibilities - Each and every day
I heard a calling that was right for me
I prayed for strength for what’s a head of me - Please show me the way
The sun rose high and burnt the night away
Who stood before me was my enemy - Don’t tread on me
He’s come to take away my liberties
I’d rather die than be a slave to thee - Don’t treat me this way

CHORUS: I’d rather die than be your slave
I will survive, and you’ll feel my rage
Its not a question of being brave
I’d just rather die, than be your slave
CHORUS
It didn’t matter who shot first that day
They killed my brothers, they laid dead by me - I’m covered in their blood
We hit them hard we made them pay that day
We hung the traitors from the highest trees - No mercy from me
We lost a lot our pain was heavy
We sacrificed for GOD and country - No more colony
Still held the ground that was in front of me
This was our price to pay for liberty - Still you hear me say

CHORUS
Much time has past, we repeat history Our toys have changed while man has stayed the same - Evil in his ways
Tribal families rule not over me
I will not let them rape our liberties - We’ll die for them today

Supposedly they wrote this for the movie 'The Patriot" but it was not used.

Hey velojym,

VERY well done!  Can't wait to see the next one (hint, hint).

Youtube, and google video, are truly excellent new tools of communication.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this one:

The Minstrel Boy
by Thomas Moore

The Minstrel Boy to the war is gone
In the ranks of death you will find him;
His father's sword he hath girded on,
And his wild harp slung behind him;
"Land of Song!" said the warrior bard,
"Tho' all the world betrays thee,
One sword, at least, thy rights shall guard,
One faithful harp shall praise thee!"

The Minstrel fell! But the foeman's chain
Could not bring that proud soul under;
The harp he lov'd ne'er spoke again,
For he tore its chords asunder;
And said "No chains shall sully thee,
Thou soul of love and brav'ry!
Thy songs were made for the pure and free,
They shall never sound in slavery!"

For something considerably more recent, here's one written with post-9/11 mania in mind:

Follow Me
by Raining Jane

Sudden impact
Crashes on me
I'm aware that
The end is coming
Rocky Mountains
School bells chime
In one hour from now
No eyes will be dry
No this can't be the way
Why did I follow you?
This can't be the way
Why did I follow?
We fall apart to come together
Patriots in stormy weather
Light changes as you leave your mark
Humanity is lost in the dark
Sweeping plains
Homemade bombs
Field of empty chairs
Leaves empty arms
This can't be the way
Why don't you follow me?
This can't be the way
Come on and follow
We fall apart to come together
Patriots in stormy weather
Light changes as you leave your mark
Humanity is lost
This can't be the way
This can't be the way
This can't be the way
(Follow me, follow me)
We fall apart to come together
We fall apart to come together
Come together, come together, come together
Yeah we come together
Reach the higher ground
Come together

My Little Armalite

I was stopped by a soldier he said "you are a swine"
He hit me with his rifle and he kicked me in the groin
I bowed and I scraped, sure my manners were polite
Ah, but all the time I was thinking of me little Armalite!

Chorus:
And it's up along the bogside that's were I long to be
Lying in the dark with the Provo company
A comrade on my left and another one on me right
And a clip of ammunition for me little Armalite!

A brave RUC man came walking up our street
With 600 British soldiers gathered round his feet,
Come out ya cowardly Fenians come on out and fight
But he cried I'm only joking when he heard my Armalite!

Chorus:
And it's down along the Falls Road that's were I long to be
Lying in the dark with a Provo company
A comrade on my left and another one on me right
And a clip of ammunition for me little Armalite!

The army came to visit me 'twas in the early hours
With saracens and saladins and buggered armoured cars,
They thought they had me cornered but I gave them all a fright
With the armourpiercing bullets of me little Armalite!

Chorus:
And it's up in Crossmaglen that's were I long to be
Lying in the dark with a Provo company
A comrade on my left and another one on me right
And a clip of ammunition for me little Armalite!

Well the premier came to Belfast to see the battles won
The generals had told them we have them on the run,
The corporals and privates while on patrol at night
Said "send home for re-enforcement's it's the bloody Armalite!"

Chorus:
And it's up in old Poleglass that's were I long to be
Lying in the dark with a Provo company
A comrade on my left and another one on me right
And a clip of ammunition for me little Armalite!

OK all good stuff but give it up for Chimes of Freedom cause it can't be topped. Go to youtube and check out the Byrds, Bruce and Dylan/Dead versions.

COMBEFERRE
At Notre Dame the sections are prepared!

FEUILLY
At rue de Bac they're straining at the leash!

COURFEYRAC
Students, workers, everyone
There's a river on the run
Like the flowing of the tide
Paris coming to our side!

ENJORAS
The time is near
So near it's stirring the blood in their veins!
And yet beware
Don't let the wine go to your brains!
For the army we fight is a dangerous foe
With the men and the arms that we never can match
It is easy to sit here and swat 'em like flies
But the national guard will be harder to catch.
We need a sign
To rally the people
To call them to arms
To bring them in line!

(Marius enters)

Marius, you're late.

JOLY
What's wrong today?
You look as if you've seen a ghost.

GRANTAIRE
Some wine and say what's going on!

MARIUS
A ghost you say... a ghost maybe
She was just like a ghost to me
One minute there, and she was gone!

GRANTAIRE
I am agog!
I am aghast!
Is Marius in love at last?
I've never heard him `ooh' and `aah'
You talk of battles to be won
And here he comes like Don Ju-an
It's better than an o-per-a!

ENJOLRAS
It is time for us all
To decide who we are
Do we fight for the right
To a night at the opera now?
Have you asked of yourselves
What's the price you might pay?
Is it simply a game
For rich young boys to play?
The color of the world
Is changing day by day...

Red - the blood of angry men!
Black - the dark of ages past!
Red - a world about to dawn!
Black - the night that ends at last!

MARIUS
Had you been there tonight
You might know how it feels
To be struck to the bone
In a moment of breathless delight!
Had you been there tonight
You might also have known
How the world may be changed
In just one burst of light!
And what was right seems wrong
And what was wrong seems right!

GRANTAIRE
Red...

MARIUS
I feel my soul on fire!

GRANTAIRE
Black...

MARIUS
My world if she's not there!

ALL
Red...

MARIUS
The color of desire!

ALL
Black...

MARIUS
The color of despair!

Musical: Les Miserables
Song: Red & Black

ENJOLRAS
Marius, you're no longer a child
I do not doubt you mean it well
But now there is a higher call.
Who cares about your lonely soul?
We strive toward a larger goal
Our little lives don't count at all!

ALL
Red - the blood of angry men!
Black - the dark of ages past!
Red - a world about to dawn!
Black - the night that ends at last!

****************************************

Musical: Les Miserables
Song: Do You Hear The People Sing?

ENJOLRAS
Do you hear the people sing?
Singing a song of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!

COMBEFERRE
Will you join in our crusade?
Who will be strong and stand with me?
Beyond the barricade
Is there a world you long to see?
Courfeyrac:
Then join in the fight
That will give you the right to be free!

ALL
Do you hear the people sing?
Singing a song of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!

FEUILLY
Will you give all you can give
So that our banner may advance
Some will fall and some will live
Will you stand up and take your chance?
The blood of the martyrs
Will water the meadows of France!

ALL
Do you hear the people sing?
Singing a song of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!

What, no mention of Leslie Fish yet? She's a bit "IWW/Wobbly", but "Black Powder and Alcohol" still rocks me.

Presented for entertainment purposes only, of course...  Don't try to make it according to the lyrics and blow yourself up.

  CHORUS:

  Black powder and alcohol,
When the states and the cities fall,
  When your back is against the wall;
  Black powder and alcohol.

Gimme charcoal to the measure two:
Send the bullet where you want it to.
Gimme sulphur to the measure three:
Make the powder gonna keep you free.
 Gimme saltpetre, measure fifteen:
Sweetest shooting that you've ever seen!  (chorus)

 Gimme water, yeast, and veggie-trash:
Leave it sitting in the slurry-mash.
When it's ready, put it in the still:
If you can't heat it, then the sunlight will.
Draw the alcohol away, and then
Put the slurry back, and start again!  (chorus)

Booze'll clean your cuts, or run your car.
You can make it anywhere you are.
Black powder in your cartridge shell
Will send the robbers running clean to Hell.
You can make them if you just know how.
So kids, remember what I tell you now!  (chorus & repeat
 chorus)

                                     Leslie Fish
                    http://www.random-factors.com

And here's a beauty by Heather Rose Jones... just visualize your favorite tyrant as "the one"

Black Widows in the Privy

Everyone knows someone we’d be better off without,
But best not mention names, for we know not who’s about.
But why commit a murder, and risk the fires of hell,
When black widows in the privy can do it just as well.

Now, poison’s good, and daggers, and arrows in the back,
And if you’re really desperate, you can try a front attack.
But are they really worth the risk of being caught
When black widows in the privy need not be bribed or bought?

So if there’s one of whom you wish most simply to be rid,
Just wait til dark, then point the way to way the widows hid,
And say to them, "I think you’ll find that this one is the best,"
And black widows in the privy will gladly do the rest.

velojym,
Kick Ass video! And thank you for making me famous! In the U.N. flag burning pic, my daughter's left arm is in the pink coat on the far left, then some chick, then ME! Just when I thought I was anonymous. At least my son managed to stay out of the picture. Amazing what a couple hundred rednecks can do with a $10 rayon flag and some coleman fuel.

I saw an earlier video in which the folks were having some trouble getting the flag to take a flame.
I figured a length of PVC could be used to carry a few flags, and you can cap both ends after filling
it with oxygen. By the time they're needed, they should catch fire nicely without any obvious
accelerants.

That flag was gone almost before anyone could get a picture. The year before, the radio station burned a green swastika made of plywood. That was funny. Someone had to throw several cups of gas on it because it kept going out. Guess they weren't taking any chances with the flag.
