Midnight,

They will remain unreadable for the moment for a couple of reasons.  We have some changes going on at the moment and we want to minimize how many impact the site all at once.  TMM is also inheriting a lot of baggage, AreaX being one of the bigger pieces.  The Terms of Service we are revising still encourage respect and civility.  AreaX was not about that, and thus, violates the Terms of Service.  But until we are more comfortable with how things move and the best way to serve the goal of this forum, we're not ready to delete it.

I hope that helps!

Why are they going to remain unreadable?

Probably because most of them are irrelevant -- irrelevant to the reason for TCF,  irrelevant to the other threads and conversations the rest of us were having, and irrelevant to the way most of us live our lives. Of course this is not an official opinion, just my own.

~~

One more thing:

When I asked if the moderators were all signed in, it was simply a matter of curiosity; I didn’t know if the list was complete. I also didn’t realize it was ‘voluntary’ – I assumed (wrongly, as so many assumptions are) that because the thread was started, it was intended to be an official sign-in.
I was the one on TCF who didn’t care who the moderators were – and I still don’t. But when the question wasn’t answered, that raised my antenna. So I repeated the question.
As far as I’m concerned, I don’t need to know which moderator acts on any given situation, as long as each of them is consistent – consistent with his own rulings, consistent with each other, and consistent with the rules of TMM.

I also realize that others DO care, and do want to know.

Edited: I added some comments in the wrong thread. I've now put them in the right thread. Sorry about that.

Agreeed:  Give everyone the ability to delete their own posts - not topics, just their posts

As of this morning, everyone who is able to sign into TMM has the ability to delete their own posts.  In addition to a modify button on your posts, you should also have a delete button.  Please be aware that if you decide to delete a post that you will only be deleting your own post.  You will not be able to delete any post that may have quoted you.   Also, once a post has been deleted, we (the admins) will not be able to put it back by waving a magic wand so be sure that you want to delete the post before you click the Delete button.

Not much going on right now.  The mods are working mostly hands-off, just letting everything settle into a groove.

I posted a note about maintaining the accessibility of the site to a wide audience.  Might ruffle some feathers, but the hope was that TMM would be a site no one would have any qualms about sending their grandmother too.  For a fed-gov equivalent, the hope is that TMM forums stay PG-13 or less as far as content.

I stressed this should not be a dictate or a mandate but a request.

No consensus yet.

Hi folks.  I haven't got time to read everything and don't understand of what I read, but I promise to be good, treat others respectfully, and try to help others here as I can.  Most of you here know about how I post.  Never have had any troble and don't expect any.

Best of luck as the forum continue.  Hope we'll still see our Claire from time to time.  All good wishes to all.

                         Respectfully,  RN

A bit behind here... all my fault.  Sorry.

1.  Proposed a new moderator to replace Feralfae (who voluntarily wanted to remove mod status).
2.  Several members were considered.
3.  One had unanimous vote for.
4.  The offer will be made shortly.
5.  I will post if the offer was accepted or not and who the new moderator is if accepted.

FYI... it was expressly noted that moderator status is not a special club or position.  It's janitorial and proposed members were considered based on their overall presence and general feeling of ability to be objective when dealing with the little board bumps and bruises that happen occasionally.  It's not a position of honor or a reward or a insider's invite.  It's work.

Not posting names now so that the members may continue unaffected if they prefer not to be mod.

Along with this came some discussion of the process by which mods should be added or removed and how many mods are appropriate.  Some decisions made:

There are no minimums or maximums for how many mods at this time.  This leaves us free to add more janitors if we need, or phase them out if we need.

Adding and removing mods will fall under the same mod decision process we've been following, which requires unanimous consent for any decision to be taken.  In the event that a mod might need to be removed that would include their vote.  Yes, we recognize the inherent potential problems with that, but feel at the moment that it is consistent with individualism.  At no time is any mod or group of mods more powerful than any other.

Any questions, feel free to post or PM me or any other mod.

The Administration voted to include MamaLiberty as an Administrator here and I pulled the switch today, so MamaLiberty is now our newest Administration member. Jeez, but where did we leave that mop and bucket? MamaLiberty says she's ready to work for liberty, and since Admin jobs here are janitorial by definition, I need to introduce her to the mop, yes? :)

Welcome aboard, MamaLiberty!

Salute!

Thanks so much, Elias. It seems working around here may be a bit more of a challenge than I anticipated... my internet connection was down for 10 hours today!! Talk about withdrawal... LOL

Anyway, I have more than a passing understanding of mop work... just point me in the right direction.   I'll even bring my own mop!!

From the questions for Defuz thread:

Quote from: vonu on Today at 05:02:29 PM
I'm not trying to be critical (for a change:-)), but since Defuz hasn't posted on this thread for over 4 pages, maybe it should be separated at an appropriate place and renamed, so those who would be interested in the current conversation won't avoid it because of the previous contentiousness.

Good idea, and something I've thought more than once. I didn't do anything since everyone else has been all over this thread - but I think I'll propose it to the others.  Be back later. Smiley

Does anyone object to this?

It could probably be split into five or six distinct threads at this point... My head hurts from it tonight. I would say aye to splitting it, but won't feel up to looking at it again for at least 24 hours. It will be a Herculean task to sort it out though. The whole property rights thing with me and Lenny would be one safe bet for a split, but I'm done with it. Don't know if anybody else wants to carry it on or not.

I think FF's post here:  http://thementalmilitia.com/forums/index.php?topic=18086.msg229454#msg229454 is worthy of it's own thread.  Suggested title:  "Who owns my body?"  So far, I think I'm the only one who replied to it here:  http://thementalmilitia.com/forums/index.php?topic=18086.msg229461#msg229461 .  I think it's very worthy of more attention than it's getting buried in the DeFuz thread.

I'll be happy to work on sorting out this wet ball of spaghetti if nobody else wants to. Of course I'll wait until we hear from everyone else and that's agreed on. I second the motion of making this into about 5 different threads, probably distributed to several boards.

But I think I'd like to hear from all the participants up to this point. It's been a challenging and stimulating discussion and I'd hate to dampen such. Hopefully, splitting it will make it more useful and allow continued discussion in the areas that interest people, without making them wade through all the stuff that doesn't. 20 pages would be quite daunting to anyone that stumbled into it now. <G>
