I'll be happy to work on sorting out this wet ball of spaghetti if nobody else wants to. Of course I'll wait until we hear from everyone else and that's agreed on. I second the motion of making this into about 5 different threads, probably distributed to several boards.

But I think I'd like to hear from all the participants up to this point. It's been a challenging and stimulating discussion and I'd hate to dampen such. Hopefully, splitting it will make it more useful and allow continued discussion in the areas that interest people, without making them wade through all the stuff that doesn't. 20 pages would be quite daunting to anyone that stumbled into it now. <G>

My suggestion has metastasized:-)
IMHO, my original approach would get the whole thing back into the limelight, then individual threads could spin off by themselves, without getting anybody lost.

Don't forget folks, you can all copy, paste, and start your own spin-off threads where-ever *you* think is important in the conversation.  You don't need us to do that.  :)

Thanks Scarmig for that clarification. I did not actually realize that was acceptable. This will be interesting and I believe beneficial.

That certainly works for me. :)

Extensive discussion on what approach to take on the posting of potentially copyrighted images.

Some concerns are:

legal ramifications to TMM
how to execute TOS policy regarding images posted in threads
consistent application of TOS policy
perception of enforcement by the community

Parallel to this is the concern of the theft of images and the theft of bandwidth for images that are hotlinked and whether or not this is a concern for TMM, or only for the member posting the images.

Discussion is ongoing.

I don't know if anyone else has seen this, or if this is the place to report it, but, I've noticed that "Show unread posts since last visit," and "Show new replies to your posts," frequently change places.

I've never looked at either one, but I suspect it might depend on which one has the latest item - for you.

Is there some reason this is important to you? What does it matter? :)

Because, if one doesn't click on both, one will have to assume that they are interchangable, and they are not.
I seldom find any answers to my posts in "replies."
I find, lately, that all the new posts are coming up in "replies" rather than in "unread," where they should.
Other interpositions would really cause problems, this is rather benign as long as one mitigates by clicking both.

Strange. I've never seen that, or I don't understand what you're saying. For me, the "User Info" box at the top of the screen has my avatar image, my name, and the number of saved and new personal message I have, "Total time logged in", and two links, the first on top, "Show unread posts since last visit" & "Show new replies to your posts". My browser bookmark is to the "Show unread posts since last visit" page, since that shows new posts, which I have never read, and posts to which I have never responded. Posts don't stay there if you don't click on them. The "Show new replies to your posts" page shows all threads in which I have posted to which somebody else has posted since I last read that thread. Things stay there until you read them, or "Mark as read".

It's as if the link descriptors have traded places, from time to time.
One time all the unread will come up when I check replies, and vise versa.
Maybe it's the Gatesitis on this laptop, but most here have that problem, I think.

Probably not, but I was just giving a heads up.
Now that I know about it, I click on both so I'll never miss anything.
