Assault with wheelchair charged

Quote
Pinned against the produce stands in a Salt Lake County Wal-Mart by a 73-year-old man in a wheelchair, Deputy Christopher Maez drew his handgun. Pointing the gun at at the elderly man, Maez told him to back up or he would shoot. Instead, John T. Snyder allegedly tried to grab the deputy's gun. Realizing the threat would not stop Snyder, Maez drew his Taser. It took several shots from the stun gun before Snyder allegedly stopped driving his motorized wheelchair into the deputy.

Quote
Snyder stopped only after Maez shot him several times with the Taser, court records say. Snyder was charged with disarming a peace officer, a first-degree felony, assault on a peace officer, a class A misdemeanor, and interference with a peace officer making an arrest, a class B misdemeanor.

Ya know, why can't Deputy Fife here chalk one up to "being a grumpy old man", press charges on the tresspassing, and leave it at that? :(

I'm surprised they put the charge disarming a cop. If you were a cop would you want everyone in town knowing you were disarmed by a old man in a wheelchair?Talk about gaining resepect at the local biker bar.

Some people have no shame.

If that happened in GA I would think it happened to Cletus Hogg.

More trigger-happy cops tase an elderly person.

No justification for using Taser on grandma

Quote
When Fletcher refused to open her door, police were called. Although Fletcher cracked the door, she still refused to let her visitors into the house.

But police officers wouldn't take no for an answer and pushed their way in. Fletcher ran and got the hammer she keeps beside her bed.

"My grandmother is easily confused," her granddaughter, Traci Taylor, said Monday. "She probably didn't know what was going on."

Taylor is one of her grandmother's caregivers. She said her grandmother has schizophrenia and dementia.

Someone needs to get Grandma Flecher a short-barreled 20-gauge loaded with double-ought.  That dang hammer is just too sluggish.

Or at the very least another hammer so she could be double barreled when she goes off "half cocked".

These cops tasered her for raising a hammer at them ?
What did they ever do before the magic Taser came along ?
What wusses .....

Cops wouldn't take 'no' for an answer

Quote
But 37 percent, or 2,940 people voted yes -- Lillian Fletcher, the elderly and mentally-ill grandmother who was Tasered by police who burst into her home, should have been Tasered because she was wielding a hammer.

That's scary.

Mind you, Fletcher had not broken any laws, police were not executing a search warrant, and the elderly woman had not been threatening neighbors with the hammer. In fact, she didn't grab the hammer until officers forced their way into her garden apartment.

After the Tasering, Fletcher, who suffers from dementia and schizophrenia, was hospitalized for five days and may have to undergo surgery for fluid on the brain.
