Public Projects for JRC
« on: October 04, 2008, 04:27:31 pm »

Let's use this thread for coordinating JRC's public activities. I'd like your thoughts on

public meetings,

fund raising,

membership drives,

printed materials for distribution to the public,

political phone-calling projects,

etc.

Let's begin by making plans for a public venue in which we can show film clips and have speakers. I would propose that we try to get an open date for renting the Procrastinator Theater in the Student Union Building on the campus of Montana State University. It is very inexpensive, and the management there is friendly to our consciousness.

At such a meeting, we could launch our membership drive and some fundraising opportunities while showing key film clips and hearing from informed speakers, including candidates for Montana state legislature.

I'd like to schedule something for the last week in October...

Ideas, comments, notes?

Salute!

 Elias,
Good ideas. It is time to go public in a bigger way. I have been seeing lots of folks in this Valley of ours starting to wake up to what's going on. Some have been awake for a while and can help us. Meetings with speakers and films is a way to get people out of the mindset of "They need to do something" and back to where it should be, "What can we do about the problem?"

Might I propose a showing of your DVD "The Money Masters"? It is a topical subject and could lead to a lively discussion. Urging people to read "The Creature From Jekyl Island" would give them a better perspective on what is really going on with this whole bailout mess.

All good ideas, Shorty Dawkins. The only reason I hesitate to offer "The Money Masters" is that the danged thing is so long - about four hours, iirc. An alternate would be Aaron Russo's "America: Freedom To Fascism", but we've already shown that one several times here. (Of course, we showed that film before this insane bailout fiasco came up, so maybe it is time to show it again, perhaps this time with a newspaper ad and some radio call-ins advocating it.)

But good Sir - you've given me an idea: methinketh that we should include a thread in this forum for "resources", in which our members can post-up their favorite liberty-related books and documentaries and movies etc. Sorta like building a small library of source materials for students of liberty, yes?

Thanks, Bro!

Although I'm not in MT (yet, anyway!), I would suggest setting up a table at all sorts of events--gun shows, reenactments, mountain man rendezvous events, etc.  Have knowledgable folks man the tables to provide info--and take donations!  A lot of people won't attend a freedom seminar or overtly freedom-oriented event because of the bad press given to some groups in the Northwest, but might just need some more education to catch fire.

A most-excellent idea. We've got a gun show coming to Bozeman next month, iirc. It would be a great move to have a table set up there. I'd better get my printer fixed pronto! Bozeman has quite a bit of public activity such as those things you mentioned. We need to get some printed stuff done up and design a nice presentation for public events. Great idea, freewoman. Thanks. And btw, if you continue to come up with helpful ideas, those ideas themselves may open doors for you there where you live and facilitate the circumstances which will hasten your move to Montana. Are you seriously thinking you'd like to move up here? If so, we'll get the welcome committee primed to be of assistance - it would be great to have you up here fighting in the trenches with the rest of us. You'd fit right in, better than you may imagine. So keep that idea in mind, yes? :)

Being a single mom, I don't want to stick my philosophical neck out too far; that precludes doing a table at a show by myself.  And I've only found a handful of likeminded folks around here, at least so far.  Would love to move, but my daughter's custody situation won't allow it.  So I'll keep doing what I can do here.

I'm glad the Jefferson River flows anywhere in the world!

I salute you for taking care of your daughter before yourself. You keep right on doing that. Family first, especially for the young ones who need your care and love. I'm proud of your stand on that, but still am seeing sometime off in the future that you'll migrate to these mountains of freedom in Montana. The like-minded folks you can't seem to find there are likely already up here in the Resistance tandem known as Wyoming/Montana, lol. Just don't be the last like-minded to make it out of the flat lands, yes? :)

There may be, indeed, two Jefferson Rivers. One that flows very near where I live, and the other in the hearts of every freedom lover anywhere on earth or orbit. So, yes, that current flows on, and with your help we'll bring its portrait to life over at the JRC website, right? Jeez but there's a lot of work to do there!

Salute!

PS: Besides, the danged weather report is calling for several feet of snow in the mountains and from four to eight inches here in the valley. Temps down into the low twenties and teens. Right now, your digs down South are looking pretty good, eh? :)

Nope.  I miss the change in seasons.  I don't particularly like driving on snow, but it's better than ice!  I look forward to developing some at-home businesses so I can stay at home when it snows!  (Once I get up there, of course.)

    Elias:

Albeit with a _strong_ cautionary note, I'd like to offer this for your perusal:

      http://www.libertarian.co.uk/lapubs/tactn/tactn001.pdf

It was written 38 years ago, by David Ramsay Steele with Chris R. Tame  for the UK  LA.

Just one of the interesting points is that it's Wertfrei --  you can use a word processor to substitute anything to replace 'libertarian' and 'libertarianism.'  It bears strong traces of the "One Ring" mindset, alas.

If the US Authorities would let me into the country to visit, how much would a place to stay in Jefferson River rent for?   How far is the Canadian border?

           Cordially,

ANDURIL   (Qu?: 'west-brilliance')  The sword of Aragorn II, reforged from the shards of Narsil (itself originally forged by Telchar of Novgrod), by elven-smiths in Rivendell in TA 3018.  On its blade a design of seven stars (for Elendil) between a crescent moon (for Isildur) and a rayed sun (for Anarion), as well as many runes.  Because of its heritage and its bearer, and because of its great brightness, Anduril quickly became a famous weapon.

Anduril, thanks for that pdf. Haven't read it yet, but have saved it to disc here. Seems you may have sent me another item from the UK LA in the past.... I'm pleased to collect up this piece by Steele and Tame.

Anduril, three rivers run north out of the south-central Montana mountains, and those three rivers were named in 1805 by Lewis and Clark. The Madison, the Gallatin, and the Jefferson. There are several very small towns along the Jefferson's route to meet the Madison and the Gallatin, where together all three rivers converge to form the headwaters of the Missouri River outside Three Forks, just a few miles from where I live. So the place is loaded with American history, and I love to sit by the Jefferson River as often as I can and let the muse run freely in harmony with the swirling currents. But there is no town called "Jefferson River" that I'm aware of in this part of the state.  An interesting town alongside the Jefferson River is Cardwell, where rents would be fairly cheap if you could even find a place to rent there. Three Forks, south/east of Cardwell, would likely have a rental or three available, but I've no idea what rents there might run. Rents are coming down now that the housing bubble has burst, but I've not looked at rental prices in years, being as I am very happy with my little humble hideout cabin at Willow Creek. Sorry I don't know more to share with you on rentals. But you may want to hit this link to begin your queries....

If you want to tempt yourself further, try this pic to excite the fanciful in any nature-loving freedom-seeker's heart.

Ths Canadian border is well over three hundred miles north of where I live, but I don't know the exact mileage. I am directly in the north-south line between Glacier and Yellowstone/Grand Teton parks.

Salute!
