Montana Shooting Sports Association Endorsements
« on: October 31, 2008, 02:01:20 pm »

Here are the MSSA endorsements for next week's elections. Since I know and highly respect Gary Marbut, I'm listing these here as JRC's endorsements also.

Montana Shooting Sports Association

2008 Candidate Grades and Endorsements

Note:  If a letter to the right of a name is in parenthesis (R) (D) (C), that indicates the political party of the candidate.  A letter not in parenthesis is the letter grade MSSA has awarded that candidate.  A question mark as a grade means the candidate did not respond to MSSA's Candidate Questionnaire and that the candidate also has no voting record upon which to base a grade.  Not responding to MSSA's CQ is usually a sign of disinterest in the Right to Bear Arms, or even outright hostility to the Right to Bear Arms.

Please recirculate the URL for these candidate grades and endorsements.  All concerned gun owners should actively support good candidates and oppose bad candidates.

If you are a person of strong principle and wish to vote for the best team possible for gun owners, regardless of effect, we recommend that you vote for Ron Paul and Michael Peroutka.

So, how does the Libertarian Party platform only get a C grade?

You know, that's a danged good question. I'll have to ask Gary how that "C" came about. At present, I'd guess it's a typo, but I'll find out if there is some reason MSSA graded it that way. Thanks for pointing that out.

Personally, that Libertarian platform excerpt you included rings good enough for me. :)

It doesn't specify anything about "carry".  This might be a weakness.  And when looking at the others, the others mention many more specific situations.  But in typical Libertarian fashion, the LP one simply uses the words "any" and "all".

The real difference between Libertarians vs. other parties is that they really don't need all those specifics, because when a Libertarian says "all" or "any" they actually MEAN it, lol.  You want a law about firearms?  The answer is NO.  We don't need details.  You want to pass a law that has anything at all to do with firearms.  Such laws should not exist -- period.

Heh! Good point. That could be it, but I'll ask Gary anyway. It'll give me an excuse to call him - I've not spoken with him since the last legislative session. Thanks, Mon!
