Merry Minuet

Sometimes when I am news searching this little song by the Kingston Trio pops to mind.

Quote
They're rioting in Africa. They're starving in Spain. There's hurricanes in Florida, and Texas needs rain.
The whole world is festering with unhappy souls. The French hate the Germans, the Germans hate the Poles.
Italians hate Yugoslavs, South Africans hate the Dutch. And I don't like anybody very much!
But we can be tranquil and thankful and proud, for man's been endowed with a mushroom-shaped cloud.
And we know for certain that some lovely day, someone will set the spark off... and we will all be blown away.
They're rioting in Africa. There's strife in Iran. What nature doesn't do to us... will be done by our fellow man.

"The Eastern world, it is exploding,
Violence flares, bullets exploding.
You're old enough to kill, but not for voting.
You don't believe in war,
But what's that gun you're toting.

And you tell me, over and over and over and over again,
You don't believe we're on the eve of destruction."

Old Barry McGuire said it a bit prematurely. You heard it here, on hullaballoo!

The second line is: "Violence flarin', bullets loadin'," FWIW.
Premature for what, the scenario is repeating?

Ah, well. The memory is not what it used to be.
In his day it "seemed" like we were on the eve of destruction. This time it could be the real thing. (Of course you could make a case for a steady, 40 year, period of decline to destruction.)

Most memories aren't, but I confirmed it with Google, so I can't brag:-)
I think Jackson Browne's "Lives in the Balance" is more on target these days, anyway.

That's a very good one.

Oh, they are losing more & more...

Hootenanny on ABC was the one...
there's a hootenanny comin' every week on ABC...
starrin' folk-music singers from the mountains to the sea...
IIRC, this time.
