Neat gadget if it works.  I would have a lot of concerns about false positives, though.  The ether is full of RF, and I would think that the gear to dicriminate between those and the ones you're looking for would be both larger and more expensive than the keychain sized thingie is.  Compare to something like this.    But, I could be wrong (happens all the time....).

If it does work, the key thing to notice is the word "wireless" in the advertising.  Unless the the bug/camera/recorder/? is putting out RF, it will not be detected.  For example, if the camera is hooked (wired) directly to the monitor/recorder---no RF signal, no detection.

Edited to add:  I just found the widget in question on here.  It is tailored to the frequency of wireless cameras.  My bad.  Sorry.

Arrgghhh!  This why I rarely post....

Must restate my concerns about false positives.  The product is advertized as detecting between 1MHz and 3GHz.  That is a huge portion of the spectrum.  See the table at the bottom of this page.

FWIW, I've also received a couple of private replies that say basically the same thing: that this gadget is not the one you'll want to buy. However, I'm glad I blogged about it, because somebody who works in a related field send URLs to other gadgets and useful info, which I'll blog tomorrow if he gives permission.

Tim,

My apologies.  It was not your reply which frustrated me.  I have a tendency to post before I am finished thinking about a subject, and as such, I often have to go back and edit, or post again.  After posting, and then editing (twice), I found more information, and then had to post again.  That was what frustrated me, not you.  I can, however, see why you would think that your post frustrated me, so again....

My apologies.  Nothing you said or did bothered me.

No problem!  I'm relieved, actually :)  Thanks for explaining!
