Well, something I NEED to do to prepare:

Was driving into the office this morning and was about 5 minutes away and Thud! Scraaaaaaaaaaaaaaape!  Sigh, that sounds like the muffler.  Sure enough, a bracket had rusted out and the whole back end was dragging.  I have zip ties and bungee cords.  Not the best option for a hot muffler.  So, crawled into work and thankfully the muffler survived the trip.  Pinged a couple buddies and we'll get it wired back into place.  (While wearing slacks and dress shirts no less.)

So, a roll of wire will now be included in my bucket o' supplies to have in the trunk of the car.

yes, yes it was.  Got the muffler wired back into place.  I'll probably do a more permanent job using that galvanized pipe hanger stuff.  I'm sure the official bracket sold by Toyota to hold the muffler in place is at least $100...

yessir it is!  Now that I'm out in the country I'm stacking my shelves with all kinds of hardware and building supplies.  And purchasing rolls of stuff by the 1/4 mile...

Sunday I not only cleared and swept, but I successfully parked two whole cars in my two car garage.  This puts me in rarified air in this country.

Today I built and put the first coat of Varathane on my garage reloading bench.

Nice slideman!  A great sense of accomplishment.

I know plenty of folks with 3-stall garages AND a storage unit crammed full of crap.  Americans love their stuff...

Now he and Q are calling this month "Red October".

The Deep State has lost their grip on the levers of power. The people who unseated them took control of NSA and now warn, "We know EVERYTHING".  As in where all of the bodies are buried and who dunnit. This has created genuine fear and desperation in the monster that previously held all power in their hands. 

The flailing, the death throes, the big battle will be bloody. It has already started. Lamestream media, including Facebook and Twitter are inciting and instigating violence. The sheep are attacking in large flocks.  Return fire will be coming soon. 

As an aside, people who do not know what "sub-MOA" means should not pick fights with those who do.

The point I am making here is that RED OCTOBER quite likely will be bloody, messy and that your preps really should be reviewed and up to date.

Precious metals, particularly gold and silver, are dramatically undervalued today. Smart people are buying. Fools are selling.

Things and infrastructure that will be unobtainable in SHTF scenarios are more valuable that gold or silver even when their comparative valuation is $1,000 per ounce or WAY MORE.  If the commodity does not exist in your community, yet is important, no precious metal exchange can bring it in.

So we balance.

I am a seller at the wrong time.  BUT I am building things with materials and technology that will not be available after TEOTWAWKI.

Great news:
I am sliding into being a fan of lard... baby steps... until the other day when I ran across ... belay that ... I went looking for an outdoor propane burner I could put a big pot on for rendering my own lard.  Pork fat is extremely cheap, sometimes free. Cooking it into lard is not something you want to do indoors (apparently - I have zero experience yet). Lard is a very high value food prep (just learning this).

I tripped over a once-used turkey fryer for $15 in the local Craigslist.  I jumped on it.  I could hardly find anything more made-to-order for the lard rendering process on a Harvey Homeowner level.

Bad News
It is game-processing season in the northwoods. ALL lard within trucking distance is going into deer-sausage and similar. NONE can be had for simple rendering.

Good News
In another month I will be able to crank out some serious batches of lard.

Lard seems to be yet another item from a bygone era.  I remember my grandma always having lard on hand.  That and bacon grease.  No Pam, no canola oil...  bacon grease and lard.
