... I am repairing a falling-apart 80 YO cardboard violin case. 
I began the repair with epoxy-soaked fiber, using up the last of my 20 YO supply of scrapyard-salvaged liquid epoxy.  I've laminated a lot of stuff with this before, patched fuel tanks, etc.

But for this job it has proved too brittle, and now I am using yellow wood glue as the laminating resin.  A water-filled Ziploc bag as a conforming clamp...

THAT is just, plain, un-American.  EVERY musical instrument case I've ever seen repaired stateside was done with duct tape.

Now I can hardly wait to do some un-American case repairs myself.

Actual experience with the tools or processes is worth many days of labor or bushels of produce when it has to be fixed, built, made safe, installed, et cetera.

The Hope with this thread was to give folks the links to valuable info so they can obtain a working knowledge of things they don't know now and the extended knowledge on subjects about which they only know a little.

As in all things that humans do ... proper Practice is the most important.

Please feel free to add any links that you might have in furtherance of that goal.

anyone know of any how-to's to convert a downspout gutter to redirect into a rain barrel?

That one is actually pretty simple Doug.

1= Stabilize your barrel under the downspout. [It will weigh over 400# when it is full. Water = 8#/gallon X 50 = 400]

2= Remove one of the straight lengths of the down spout to raise the elbow shaped tip to just above the barrel.

3= Cover the entire top of the barrel with plastic screening [screen door screening] to keep out leaves twigs and most of the flying varmints.
[If your barrel doesn't have the entire top cut out of it then you MAY want to either custom make a fitting to attach the downspout to the barrel ...
OR ...
cut a hole in the top of the barrel just large enough for the downspout to enter the barrel top.]

4= Reassemble the down spout.

5= Wait for rain.

IF you place the barrel off of the ground by several inches [six or more] then a "hose bib" can be installed and a regular garden hose can be used to remove water for whatever use you desire.
Any timbers used should be "treated" wood as they will get wet lying on the ground and under a barrel full of water which will overflow when the barrel gets full.

I don''t see how to post a new topic. I wrote what is literally "the book" about how to make silencers.  My .22 book shows you how to internally thread any 22 barrel, without taking the gun apart or sending your barrel to anyone.  My baffles do need cleaned every 300 rds or so, but that's easy and ALL .22lr cans need cleaning every 300 rds or so, the .22's powder just leaves too much residue for things to be otherwise.  I can make one of my superbly effective baffles in less than 3 minutes, including time to anneal the copper screenwire and let it air cool. :-)  I have made 10 .22 cans in one day, threaded the barrels, screwed the cans onto the guns and testfired each one.  It's that easy.  With the brass piloted drill bit that I show you how to make, you can counterbore the barrel and tap it in less than 5 minutes.
