Concierge doctors limit the size of their practices and eschew Medicare and HMO plans in order to give themselves more clinical autonomy.  This translates into house calls, easy to schedule appointments, more face time with the doctor, sometimes other services like exercise coaching or smoking cessation.  They all aim for higher quality medical care with less second-guessing by bureaucrats. 

They need to keep a low profile because state insurance regulators like to harass them and shut them down.  I know a great one in Massachusetts, but for those of you fortunate enough to live anywhere else, I found a new directory of concierge doctors:

Concierge Physician Directory presently lists 487 physicians.  If your doctor provides concierge care, send the link to them and expand the directory.
