Fwd:  Wolf delisting announcement today

Fwd:  Wolf delisting announcement today

Dear MSSA Friends,

The Secretary of the Interior is announcing today that DoI will soon
publish a notice in the Federal Register to delist wolves in Montana and
Idaho.

30 days after publication delisting will become effective and the
Defenders of Wildlife and others will announce their required 60-day
notice to sue in federal court for an injunction to block
delisting.  They'll cherry-pick a court with a sympathetic federal
judge.  Being before a sympathetic federal judge, it's a near
certainty that they'll get what they want, with some newly-invented
rationale' why wolves cannot be delisted.  If they don't get what
they want in the federal district court, they'll appeal to the
circuit, probably the Ninth Circuit court of Appeals in San Francisco.

So, we will argue to the Montana Legislature that today's delisting
announcement by DoI will have no effect on saving Montana game herds
- that SB 183 still needs to pass the Legislature.  SB 183 gives
Montana the only leverage it will have when the antis file their lawsuit.

DoI's delisting announcement is posted at:

Stay tuned.
