Welcome to The Montana Messenger _ Goodbye to The GV Patriot
« on: August 12, 2009, 07:27:22 pm »

Writing October 22, 2009, Willow Creek, Montana -

I want to leave three threads in this forum relating to The Gallatin Valley Patriot despite the change which has occurred. I must announce that I am no longer with the Gallatin Valley Patriot newspaper. I'm now with The Montana Messenger newspaper. Why?

When we began The GV Patriot newspaper, Joan, Don, and self were respectively "publisher", "editor", and "assistant editor". When the first issue of the GV Patriot was printed, I noticed that a couple of my articles were missing from the printed paper. In speaking with the owner of the paper, a nice lady who runs The Big Sky Weekly, Joan, Don, and I were assured that deadline scrunches in the paper's lay-out department were responsible for the ommissions, and that our 2nd issue would certainly be printed just the way the three of us designed it to be.

That turned out to not be true. On the second issue of the GV Patriot eleven articles were replaced by articles which Joan, Don, and self had never seen before. One article in particular, supportive of the illusion of the so-called "War on Terror", irritated me greatly, for it ran contrary to our mission statement. Also missing from that edition of the GV Patriot was the promised article on Oath Keepers.

Joan, Don, and self pow-wowed and decided to walk. But first we pled our complaint with the paper's owner. We were unable to reach consensus on the direction of, and editorial policy of, the paper, so we walked out. Joan, Don, and self then discussed creating a paper of our own, one in which we could dish the truth as we wished. We would have to obtain services from a printing company, and we would need to hire a lay-out guy, and we would have to arrange or create other elements which are necessary in producing a newspaper.

All of that has to do with why I've not said much here at TMM for a long time. But now I'm ready to announce that Joan now owns a new newspaper named The Montana Messenger. She is the publisher/owner; I am the editor; Don is my assistant editor. And in this new venture, we're empowered to actually do the publishing and the editing. We are excited, and we are proud of the paper we're taking to the printer next week.

Because the idea for The Montana Messenger was born out of our brief sojourn as staff at The Gallatin Valley Patriot, I wish to leave the three threads which I created under the heading of the GV Patriot here on this forum. I've changed the forum's name to The Montana Messenger, but do not want to lose the history of our morphing into The Montana Messenger. This thread will remained locked except to Administrators here at TMM. What follows below is just what I had written before "the fall". :)

Thanks for reading!
Salute!

Welcome!

I'll use this thread to introduce a new project originating in the Gallatin Valley in southwestern Montana.

The Gallatin Valley Patriot is a brand new monthly paper with a launch date of Friday, August 14, 2009. On that date the paper will 'hit the street' in southwest Montana from West Yellowstone to White Hall to Livingston - a broad swath of America's "last best place". Our largest number of distribution locations is in Bozeman, Montana.

The idea to do this paper came in part from a glaring omission by local media/press services regarding coverage of the 2009 Fourth-of-July Bozeman Tea Party - But - this paper did not get created just to fill a gap in local coverage by media/press organizations. While it will in some ways do that, the more central purpose of this paper is to share suppressed knowledge in ways which shall help unify our communities, families, and local support systems.

This paper promises to be a unique paper, tastefully but boldly done by a small band of Montana patriots. There will be a website very shortly. We shall seek support from friendly website operations via banner exchange etc.

I'll be adding details presently. I will lock this thread but will add to it as we get the board going.

Salute!
Elias

I just received my copy, thank you Elias.

I have only skimmed it as of yet and one thing I noticed is that I believe you should submit it to Guinness book of World Records for wordiest column published in a newspaper.  LOL  One column, two *full size* pages, non-stop. :D

Uhm-hmm... but just wait until you see the next paper we send you. Should be out in a few weeks.

But by the way, have you ever read William Faulkner's acceptance speech for the Nobel Prize? Just askin'. :)

I don't know anything about facebook. Can't use it, don't go there. But I'd be curious to meet your pretended alter ego! :)

So, I take it you have a layout person?

Ragnar,
I've just returned about an hour ago from Las Vegas. Did not know I would be attending the first annual national Oath Keepers conference in Vegas, but at last minute Stewart and Dave Freeman and Tiffany Epiphany got my transportation arranged and finalized, so I left in a blur and rode in a furnished car with a furnished driver and bombed down to Las Vegas for a very momentous event.

While all that was going on this weekend, of course Joan and our lay-out guy, Michael Blessing, finalized our first issue of The Montana Messenger, and this morning (Monday, October 26, 2009) Michael used the printer's FTP to load the completed paper into the printer's computer - and, lo and behold! - the paper got printed today while I was driving back up to Montana from Las Vegas. I've called Joan tonight after getting home, and learned that we'll pick the papers (6,000 copies) on Tuesday, Oct. 27. Will begin distributing Tuesday, and will begin mailing to select friends and "usual suspects" (including yourself!) on Wednesday. Joan says the paper is looking good, and is very close to being perfect, although she says she has found a couple of tiny errors. All in all, for our first issue this paper will satisfy me completely - but remember, I'm saying this without having seen the finished product.

I'm too shot to introduce this board to Michael Blessing tonight, but will return here soon to fill readers in about Michael. But to answer your question, yes, we have a lay-out guy, and he's a wonderful artist and patriot - and is also an Oath Keeper, as you'll see when I make another announcement in the Partner Sites forum for Oath Keepers.

And Rags, Bro - I'm happily scrounging up some mailing funds to send you a number of copies of The Montana Messenger so you can be our first distributor in your state. Can you dig it? :)

Salute!

Ragnar,
I got a box of papers into the mail to you. Thursday or Friday - can't recall which day. Hope you like. Thanks for spreading them around. As you do pass them around to friends there, please stress that we're depending on subscriptions to keep the paper going.

Michael, our lay-out guy, cut his teeth on our first issue, and there are some layout problems apparent in our finished product. Also of note, I had to be out of town at the Oath Keepers national conference during the three days of final lay-out, and that was very unfortunate because the trip prevented me from participating in the layout with Michael. I will be present for all future lay-out sessions, and I'm certain that we now have most of our tech problems worked out. In this issue we have some font issues and too many words are missing their "space" between words. I've caught several minor errors in other areas of the paper. But overall, the people here in Montana are liking the paper and are happy to distribute it to their friends. We are getting subscribers in our post office box and have also sold a few ads for 2nd issue.

This is a grassroots effort. We appreciate everyone who buys a subscription. 6 months for $35.00. Checks and money orders payable to:

The Montana Messenger is no more, alas, for lack of support.  Refunds are being sent out.

The good news is The Oath Keeper newspaper is proving to be successful.
