Unless property taxes are eliminated, this form of extortion (threat of having your property commandeered for failure to pay one's tribute) will make it practically impossible to be fully independent.

Playing devil's advocate here for a moment...

Absolutely. How many of us, however, are willing and able to pay the actual costs of the road by our house, the highway we use to get to town, etc.? How many of us are able and willing to take FULL responsibility for all the things we use today that are paid for with those taxes?

Not saying it can't be done privately, by any means, and for FAR less money... but most of us are probably not willing to live without roads, etc. any time soon since there is not private option for much of it.

So, it would seem important to fight for and develop private means to provide these things rather than just gripe about the taxes. :)  Not saying that's what you all are doing, just saying...

"Yeah, property taxes.  It's BS.  It's paying rent on the property you already own.  I've had issues with this for sometime.  It forces you into "indentured servitude" as it requires you to have money or produce money to keep the "mafia" from stealing it from you.  Thus, in it's present form, one cannot be completely "free" of the system unless you're willing (forced) to generate money (salary, Social Security, etc).  Unless property taxes are eliminated, this form of extortion (threat of having your property commandeered for failure to pay one's tribute) will make it practically impossible to be fully independent."

I can't help but wonder how many people know that county can't actually 'sell' your property if you fail to pay the property taxes.  When the property taxes haven't been paid for a certain lenght of time the sheriff of that county adds that property to the tax sale list.  What is the sheriff actually selling?  Cetainly not the property!  The county doesn't hold a legal title to it.  All the sheriff is selling is an equitable interest in the property in the amount of the unpaid property taxes - nothing more!  The individual who buys that now has an equitable interest in said property, a lien if you will.  If that person can acquire enough equitable interest in said property they can then go to court to attempt to acquire 'legal title'.

I also can't help but wonder how many people realize that in most purchase agreements they've agreed to pay the property taxes.  If they took out a mortgage on that property they also agreed to pay and keep the property taxes current.
I'm not saying that property taxes are right, just saying the above.

Well those who attempt to force one to rent what they've already bought and paid for deserve a bullet in their head
