Fwd: Flash! Good News - HB 271 moving

Dear MSSA Friends,

HB 271, "permitless carry" got sprung from the House Judiciary
Committee this morning.  It will come to the floor of the House for
consideration early next week (amid a CRUSH of other bills -
Transmittal looming).

Over the weekend we need to spool WAY up with messages to the entire
House urging all members to support HB 271.  I'll remind you over the weekend.

The talking points are:

1)  The conditions post-HB 271 inside cities have existed outside
city limits for 20 years, with ZERO problems.

2)  People who live inside city limits are NOT a sub-class of more
lawless citizens.

3)  People availing themselves of the option under HB 271 would still
have to be "eligible" to obtain a CWP - no criminals, no dishonorably
discharged, of age (18), gun safety training completed, etc.

4)  Open carry is already legal inside cities with no permit.  HB 271
only allows certain law-abiding citizens to put a coat on without a
government permit.

5)  Police would handle post-HB 271 situations this inside cities
just like they handle open carry there now, and just like it has been
handled outside cities for 20 years.

Gary's put together some excellent talking points (as usual).  Open carry is great when it's not cold outside, but problematic when you need to wear a coat.  I especially like point no. 2--take that, Californicators!

It is also currently legal to carry a handgun inside a purse, briefcase, bag, or pack without a permit, inside city limits.  I regularly do this. It is also legal to carry openly without a permit inside city limits.  If this were to fail in the Senate, I may have to increase the frequency of my open carry.   
 
By my count, 14 RINOs voted against it, including my "representative", Harry Klock.

Montana House green lights concealed carry without permit

HELENA — The House has endorsed a gun rights proposal that would allow people to carry concealed weapons in urban areas without a permit.
House Bill 271 would allow anyone eligible for a concealed weapon permit to carry without actually applying for a permit. Concealed carry is already allowed in rural areas without a permit. The bill moved forward Monday by a 55-45 vote. ...<snip>...
