Posting audio?
« on: September 07, 2007, 04:06:08 pm »

Hi,

I have a few songs of my own I'd love to post here, but don't know how.  (and don't want it to be listened to by anyone, anywhere off this site!)

Can anyone help me? Or should I just posat lyrics and ask you to use you imagination? ;)

I don't think there's any way to upload an audio file to TCF, but if you can upload it to your own website or maybe a free file-hosting service, you can post a link to it.

Unfortunately, I don't think there's any way to prevent non-TCF people from downloading it.  This whole forum is indexed by Google, so anyone who finds your post has found your file link.

Alright, but on these "file-hosting" sites, can you upload it to there, but not have it accesible to people there?  I don't have any idea how those things work.

As to the people downloading it, I meant only have the file available to download from here, not from another site. Make sense?  I'm not that shy about people hearing me sing, I'm not bad...(my songs have no backround stuff yet, unfortunately) but I'd rather it just be availible here.

Makes total sense.  What he's telling you is that it can't be done.  You can't attach files to TCF, all you can do is post a link to some other site.  If you put the files in a geocities folder or something like that, it's unlikely that anyone will find them there unless you post the link.  But if you then do post the link on TCF, anybody could follow the link and copy the file.  The only way to keep it more private than that, the files being available on the internet at all, is to only send the links through email or PM.

If you don't want people able to download your files, don't put them on the internet and for sure don't link them here.

Oh well, if they find them here and copy them I'm too worried.  I feel pretty anonymous posting them on internet.  Nobodies going to track down my IP or anything, likely.  Just don't want to have to put them in plain sight somewhere so that people hear can listen here...

So...I'll try this "geocities" thing when I get I chance.  Might take me a while to figure out...

Thanx guys.
