Survival Medicine Handbook
« on: July 23, 2012, 05:27:42 pm »

I've looked at a lot of these books, and found most to be seriously deficient in one way or another, but I finally found the one I want to USE. Realistic instructions to do a lot of things ordinary people would be terrified to try otherwise, and solid help for medical professionals as well. Lots of alternative and "wildcraft" ideas too, for when you don't have the modern supplies you might need. This one is a winner.

Very likely a good place to start. If one is actually going to depend on finding and using wild plants for medicine, there is a lot to learn and it takes some time and practice. You must KNOW for sure what plant you have found, and all of its properties and potential dangers, harvesting and storage requirements. Field trips and even classes with an experienced herbalist/wildcrafter is essential to transition from pictures in a book to actually being able to use these things safely and effectively.

Very true ML.  As with ALL preps, having experience at, well, whatever prep you have is essential.  Use everything you will depend on in a situation.  Finding out after the fact that the thingy you bought is a right handed thingy when you needed a left handed thingy or the whatsis you well depend on turned out to be a piece of crap and broke right after you opened the box.

And having all the books in the world wont really help if you don't put that info to use BEFORE your life depends on it.
