Economy, blogs give survivalists new reason to look to Northwest
« on: February 10, 2012, 10:05:41 am »

Rawles, et al in mention:  http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2017469929_redoubt10.html

Quote
The guru of the movement is James Wesley Rawles, a former Army intelligence officer and author of the best-seller "Survivors: A Novel of the Coming Collapse."

The book tells of military veterans who lead bands of tough-minded Americans through a period of marauding rioters and the collapse of the supply chain and technology, and of a provisional government "determined to take over America and destroy the freedoms upon which it was built."

That thought occurred to me too. I doubt many of them have the personal integrity to
admit they were wrong and ask for help, but they could sure jump on the band wagon
to get the state to rob ... uh ... confiscate ... supplies from those 'hoarders' who had the gall,
(gall!) to prepare themselves for this unforeseen < fill in the blank > disaster!!!

They forget most of us out here can shoot high recoiling rifles, accurately, several hundred yards, repeatedly on target... off hand.  And I'm not even talking about the crazy old military vet types.  I'm talking about us guys who've never gone to any boot camp or military classes or anything, just average deer pluggers and beer can blasters, ya know?

And the distances out here are VERY long.  Plundering a man's house here is ... a bad idea.  Basically.  Besides, city slickers coming out here to mess with a man's house might get eaten by the random predatory wildlife that just wanders right through everyone's properties.  I've identified 2 separate sets of mountain lion tracks in the snow out here (one in my yard awhile back, and one in a neighbors yard a few hundred yards off.)  I don't let my dog out at night anymore, and I don't do work around the house at night anymore.  Bandits might as well HOPE they get shot instead of eaten by wolves, coyotes, mountain lions, bears and who knows what other fanged and clawed stuff wanders the wastes here.

Folks, this place is Borderlands, with more snow and less bandits and psycho mutant freaks, and without the awesome all terrain vehicles with rocket launcher turrets, but that's life, right?

I hear we got green rattlers out somewhere around here too, not just regular sandy ones.  Good reason to mow your lawn.  We don't have lawn height regulations, we got "if its taller you won't see the damn rattlers" rules.  :P  I got a mag full of snake shot rounds replacing a mag of regular JHP when I'm hiking or out in the summer.  Never know when a snake needs to be rendered into "land eel fillets" eh?  I do miss malls and big city fanciness, but until the pig departments are all out of business of cracking heads and kidnapping innocents for ransom (they call it bail and fines) I'm going to do without so much of that.  The peace and quiet factor alone, makes me VERY happy.  I laugh a lot more these days, and I am finding myself able to breathe much more deeply.

That said, I don't believe I'm a "survivalist."  I'm just a "leave me the fuck alone-ist."  :D  Is that pretty simple enough to grasp?

Beautiful.  I'll change a word or two but I'm going to use this phrase.

Yuki, knobster, you most certainly can. :P

By the way that army intelligence and military justice being oxymoronic terms, I actually got from an old pal of mine who was an MI guy.  He thought it greatly funny.  (Course he got out and got into computer and physical security and had a blast doing it.)

That said, just because I like being left alone, doesn't mean I dislike good company or that I'm antisocial, I'm just antisocialist.  I don't like being messed with, good quality company is usually welcome, I just don't have a guest room out here, yet.

Fukishima is going to destroy the Northwest.

How do you figure that? You might be interested in reading this thread to understand how some of us at TMM see this thing. https://www.thementalmilitia.com/forums/index.php?topic=28273.0  We've actually talked about it quite a bit.

Okay I bit the search bullet:

Kind of fun- operate a reactor:  http://thementalmilitia.com/forums/index.php?topic=28369.msg354229#msg354229

Something with numbers instead of sweeping fearmongering statements:  http://thementalmilitia.com/forums/index.php?topic=28394.msg354535#msg354535

If radiation was going to damage the Pac-NW we would be able to see the results by now.  I hope the influx of johnny come latelies doesn't fubar folks plans in that area........

Most of the time news is about the same old violations of the first principles of consent and golden rule with a dash of force thrown in........ with just enough duct tape to be believable.
