I submitted taxes today with TurboTax. Very easy way to succumb to the extortion. They asked for a rating. I gave them 8 out of 10. They asked for my reason for the rating. I said:

"TurboTax makes getting raped, strangled, cut into pieces, and fed to the hogs as fun as it can possibly be."

If we actually had some kind of actual benefit, we probably would.

IIRC, it used to be that property taxes were the biggest source of revenue for a state.  The benefit of paying your property taxes was that you had the right to vote to try and determine how that tax money was spent.  If you didn't pay your taxes, you simply didn't have any voice in how those taxes were used.  Otherwise, you were unmolested.

How about paying directly for the things we want to use? When "taxes" are collected, there are no alternative choices. Even in your example, you either "buy" the government "services" or you do without.

Would you pay taxes without a gun to your head?
Yes.

Why?  But, more important, do you think that others who would say no should have a gun at their head to force that payment.

If you choose to give your property to the robber, it is no business of mine.  I don't understand it, but that is not necessary.

Yeah, that part bothered me.  The whole "Never put your finger on the trigger until you are ready to fire" thing was hammered into me at a pretty young age, and the violation of that rule bothers me more than anything else...well, except for "Never let the muzzle of your gun cover anything you do not intend to destroy."
