I attended a handful in Grand Rapids.  Half the tables had food, antiques (ie, junk from someone's basement), crafts, fishing stuff, camping stuff and the list goes on.  And it was called the Gun and Knife show!  Much happier with the Ceder Rapids shows.

Another show coming up in Cedar Rapids, IA.  Jan 31 - Feb 2.  Probably just go and check on prices.  No critical need items on my list (yet).  Although if I see any AR 80% lowers...

Gun show this weekend was so-so.  I was busy Saturday so I went on Sunday instead.  No crowds (everyone getting ready for the football game I guess) but that means most of the good stuff had been picked clean.  Gun prices seemed better than last time.  Saw plenty of ARs for less than $800 and plenty of the more popular handguns in the 300-400 range.  One table had bricks of 22lr for seventy freaking dollars (the Remington 'value' packs of 500).  I remember when they were being sold for $15.  Ah fond memories.

Brass was hit or miss - plenty of 40s and 45s to be found which I don't need as I pick up plenty at the range.  Found a few bags of 44spc and 44mag for 11cents each.  Also found a bag of 38spc for 8cents each.

Primers - quite a few to be found.  Prices ranged from 28-35 depending on brand.

Bullets - plenty for decent prices.  Lead cast, copper plated hollow points, match grade, etc.  Had something to satisfy any appetite.

Powder - huh?  What's this pow-dur you speak of?  One table had a sign 'Ask us about powder'.  After following printed instructions I was informed that they were cleaned out within the first hour of the show.  Seems that this is the particular component of choice to be in short supply now.  Primers had their 15 minutes of fame, now it is time for powder to shine.

Couldn't find any AR lowers but quite a few AR uppers.  All in the $500 range.  Ouch.

One guy who I bought brass from shared some peculiar news: a few other companies came in on Friday and bought up tons of brass.  Cleaned out quite a few folks.  This particular fellow didn't sell everything he had though.  Wanted to 'save some for the everyday joes'.  Not sure what's going on with that.  Buying up range brass at gun shows to then process it to sell at a profit?

Bought a venison stick for my son as well.

    Somebody buying up brass, .22LR selling for a cut throat price, and these days you have to know someone at Wal-Mart or the gun shop to be able to buy .22LR ammo.  Lots of scalpers in ammo now days.  That and the average person is awakening and scared like never before.  THEY KNOW that there WILL be a shooting war with Obama's brown shirts someday.  Don't know if it will come in the life time of old worn out guys like me or not, but will come alright.

Here I go talking to myself again...  Heading to this show tomorrow with my two brothers.  My 9-yr old son will most likely tag along as well.  He wants to join us to do "man stuff".

I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for powder and brass.  Will report back on my findings (and prices) next week.

No more shows locally until August. The last one I went to in early May was a serious improvement over any I've seen in at least two years. Tables full of actual guns and gun related stuff. Very little artsy-crafty displays. Not much ammo or reloading components, but better than last year. Oh, and the big camplex fair building was stuffed with tables! Most years we're lucky to get half the room filled. Things are looking up a bit.

Show in Cedar Rapids this past weekend was all right.  I wasn't impressed with the prices of things.  Seems nearly everything got a tad more expensive.

Ammo - lots, prices seemed high.  Handgun ammo was in the 30-50¢ per round range while rifle ammo was approaching the $1 a round mark.  Saw some tables carrying 22lr.  A few months ago bricks of 500 were going for $75 and now they are going for $55.  Glad to see the price come down but still too much for my blood.

Brass - not much.  Found some 45colt and 38spc for 30¢ and 10¢ a case respectively.  Most tables carrying brass had mainly 40, 45 and 9 brass.  I did notice one vendor who I've been stopping at each show seems to be expanding from a few bags of range pickups to a full blown operation offering bags of 1000 cases fully processed.  He had a huge banner 'Brass' above his tables but only had 223, 45 and 9 available.

Bullets - plenty for everyone.  Prices seemed about the same as the last show.

Primers - little more expensive this time around.  Prices ranged from $28-$40 per box of 1000 and there was plenty on the tables.

Powder - nary a flake.  The one vendor who usually has a sign stating, "Ask us about powder" didn't have it up.

Reloading/casting equipment - less inventory than last time.  Saw a handful of dies being offered but that was about it.

Firearms - gut-wrenching expensive.  Tables were groaning under the weight of the sheer numbers of them being offered but didn't notice too many folks walking out with them.  Crusty Mosin-Nagants going for $170, M1 Garands going for over $1000, AR-15s (too many to even count) in the 800 - 1500 range.  Was looking for a 22 revolver for my son to shoot and even those were in the $300 range.

I almost picked up a stripped AR lower for $85.  Anderson Manufacturing was the company, which I didn't recognize, so I passed.  I'm sure once I do some research I'll kick myself for not picking it up.  Oh well, hind sight 'n all that.

Overall I was a little disappointed in the show.  Didn't walk out with as much stuff as I had hoped.  My brothers and son seemed to enjoy it at least.

I saw a little placard stating that.  I was a little skeptical of the claim but the guy at the table was busy talking with another customer so I didn't bother asking for clarification.

Best in The West and Rocky Mountain are the 2 shows that go thru 'Vegas on a 1/4 ly basis.  One sells ammo as a preference, the other is more of a survivalist than gun show.  Both have deals to be found, but they are not what they used to be.

The only shows worth anything out here these days are put on by the local gun clubs. All of the "professional" shows are not worth the drive. They are usually expensive to get into and everything inside is expensive too. Mostly gun dealers and other professional vendors, very few peer to peer deals as it used to be. The last straw was when the big "shows" in Gillette started to demand everyone disarm. Not going there anymore.
