The only shows worth anything out here these days are put on by the local gun clubs. All of the "professional" shows are not worth the drive. They are usually expensive to get into and everything inside is expensive too. Mostly gun dealers and other professional vendors, very few peer to peer deals as it used to be. The last straw was when the big "shows" in Gillette started to demand everyone disarm. Not going there anymore.

You and me both, darlin'!  Spearfish one over the border is like that too.  And the gun shows out here in the NW are small enough that you can't fade into the crowd as you reload your piece with your spare mag.  Zip tied guns was bad enough (I consider it no different than a peace knot on a sword in ancient times), but this mess now with leave your gun in the car, crap... ITS A GODDAMN GUN SHOW FOR CHRISSAKES!!!  I can't tell you how many times in ancient past, I'd get asked "you sellin' that?" While walking with my rifle on my back at the old shows on the coast.  They started disarming out there before I left too.

Think maybe its a cosmic hint?  Nowhere left to move where they have guns at gun shows.

 You wanna know something funny? In NYS, you CAN bring in a personal gun to a gun show. At the BIG show in Syracuse at the NYS fairgrounds, you have to make it temporary inoperable, but not at the smaller shows.

That's just the point. You can bring your "personal gun" to any of these shows, even wearing them. But the "professional shows" now require them to be made inoperable...unloaded is just as good as dismantled, far as I'm concerned - especially with the zip tie thing. Our local shows (far as I know) have zero policy about it. Nobody has ever bothered me about OC, though we often have some pleasant exchanges about WHAT I'm carrying. :)  Funny thing is that the same building is used for the Gillette gun club show as the "professional" ones, and the club doesn't have a problem with my OC gun - so it's not the policy of the building, evidently.

The Rapid City, SD "shows" are now held in the "civic center" and they've always been "gun free zones." I won't go there either - for anything. Don't (and won't) have a CC "permit" for SD, and being there, frankly, isn't worth the hassle of being "caught" with a gun concealed. Don't need any "permit" to conceal in Wyoming, of course, but again... going to these phony shows isn't worth the hassle, even if I didn't object on principle.

Hit the show in Cedar Rapids this past Sunday.  Met up with Julio and chatted for a bit.  Thanks for making the trek bud!

Nice show per usual - plenty to be had for those with a bit of cash in their pocket.  I was mainly looking for reloading dies and components so I didn't spend too much time drooling over the various boomsticks (and there were plenty of them).  I did look around at 1911 as my SHW really enjoyed that platform.  Ruger's in the $600 range and Colt's in the $800 so it seemed typical.  There still seems to be a glut of AR inventory as those particular rifles were everywhere.  Prices ranged from $450 to $2000.

Primers and bullets were well stocked.  Brass was decent if you wanted 45, 9, or 223.  I actually found an old peanut butter jar full of 41 mag so I snatched that up.  15¢ each so not too bad.

Powder - handful of tables had paper lists of powders on hand.  All rifle powders; nothing for pistol.  This shortage is mind boggling!

Not much in the way of reloading equipment but a couple of tables had plenty of dies.  I found a Lee Die set for 338 Win Mag that I picked up.  Time to start loading for that monster.

All in all a great show.  Just wish I would have picked the money tree clean before showing up.

    210 grain Nosler Partition over 73 grains of 4350 , cci 250 primer , winchester brass. 2900 fps through a 24 , 3000 plus out of a 26.

210 grain Barnes XLC , 69 grains Varget ,Federal brass Win LRM primer.......3100 out of a 24 , over 3200 in a 26.  Half a minute of angle groups. ( Model 70 and a Browning)

225 grain Barnes X , 76 grains of Norma MRP ( hard to find but worth the effort) Fed 215 primer......2900 out of a 26 inch.

I'vegot a whole slew more ,try the 250 grain Berger Match Hunting Elites , the Swift 250 grain Sciroccos and the 250 and 275 grain A-Frames.

The 300 grain Bergers are a good bet for dangerous game ( Bear defense) as are the 275 A-Frames.

Not a lot in comparison to some cartridges.

Try these for the Hornadys..........76 grains H1000 ,71.5 to 72 of H4831 , or 67 to 68 grains of H 4350 , all with Winchester LRM primers. These will be well over 2600 perhaps close to 2700 out of a 24 inch tube , over 2700 out of a 26 inch , knocking on the 2800 mark with the right conditions.  I kind of favor Winchester and Federal brass for the cartridge in question........YMMV.

Indeed.  I don't even want to know how much goes into a 50 bmg case.

Thanks for the numbers.  I've jotted them down and will go on a hunt for those powders.

In other words use his knowledge and tolerate his politics long enough to do so.  Ayoob and several of hi9s people is why we practice at much shorter ranges today.  His compilation of those statistics introduced a lot of reality into shooting and moved the practice shooting into the 3, 5, 10 yard range rather than the 10+ yard range it was before.

Gabe Suarez is a name to look for too.  If nothing else you will learn how to retain your drawn weapon in a brawl........

At the last minute I decided to hit the gun show this weekend in Cedar Rapids, IA.  I wasn't planning to go but some other plans fell through so I grabbed my son and off we went.  I was pleasantly surprised by a number of things:

Overall the mood was much more jovial.  I'm guessing the recent elections (for whatever that's worth) has calmed everyone down.  I didn't see any panic buying or overhear topics such as 'confiscation' or 'kicking down doors'.

Boomstick prices continue to come down.  Saw AR's (Smith and Wesson MP15) for $599.  I can't build'em any cheaper so I may go that route as I want to add a couple more to the groups' arsenal.  Ruger 1911s for $500; Glocks in the 300-400 range; even saw quite a few old WW2 work-horses for less than $200.

Primers were plentiful: $28 - $33 which is pretty typical.  Bullets were everywhere.  I picked up some Hornady VMAX 22cal for $16 a box of 100.  Brass was also in great supply - I wasn't looking for any this time around but the tables were packed with it.  Even saw plenty of the revolver cases: 44mag, 44spc, 38spc, etc.

Powder was actually in stock.  Tables had a list of available powders and there were quite a few options.  And this was on Sunday, the last day of the show.  Blue Dot, SR 4756, Acc #7 were just a few of the pistol/shotgun powders in stock.  Prices for those were actually not inflated:  $18 for a pound of Blue Dot.

22lr ammo was everywhere!  Prices were still higher than I wanted to pay though.  13¢ per round but it was still nice to see plenty on the tables.

Once again, a very nice show.  Lots of guns, lots of knives, lots of great conversations.  It seemed to be much more relaxed this time around.  I've been to... gosh, maybe a dozen of these in Cedar Rapids now and the overall mood was quite pleasant.
