Very nicely done!

I'll admit, though, that when I saw that woodpecker photo, I could not help but think of this....

Very nice!

In the last couple of years I have interest in photography of animals. Lots of cool stuff here in the woods. I'm not educated in the field but would like a fairly low cost digital camera that I could get some good close-ups of various varmits. Sitting in the house looking out the patio door I have see some neat things. For example, about 2-3 times a year piliated woodpeckers make a brief appearance near the house. They are very nervous and gone quickly. It would take a camera that could zoom in on them at a distance.

Alchemist, those are exceptional! I'm not good at taking pictures myself, but I get a good one every once in a while. I have a "pet" wolf spider in the upstairs bathroom, and I have so far not succeeded in getting a picture. He's too small and the photos are much too LARGE. I have no luck using the zoom lens either.  Just makes him fuzzy and out of focus.

Anyway, I enjoyed these and hope you will post more.

Thank you, very much! I will.

I know it can be frustrating when your equipment can't do what you would like it to do. (Damn, that sounds like it could be a line from a Viagra ad.)

Or an ad for a better camera. It's a Cannon "Power Shot" A560 The biggest problem with it is that it eats batteries like a teen ager eats pizza. I swear that civilization can never advance truly until someone creates a better battery for these things.

But I really can't complain about a $75. camera that's nearly five years old. In fact, I'm sure it will "do" a lot more things than I know how to make it do. The book got lost a long time ago, darn it. Need to see if I can download one from Cannon. It has a "close up" and "portrait" setting, and I've taken some nice closeup photos of my orchids and plants in the field, actually, but I suspect the spider is just too small.

Rechargeable batteries are the only way to go with digital cameras.

Not for this one. I have bought half a dozen different "rechargeable" batteries - all the NiMH, and recently went to "advanced lithium." NONE of them last any time at all if left in the camera, and it is a real pain in the a** to have to retrieve and load the batteries each time I want a picture. I usually just don't bother anymore. sigh

Thanks! I'll get that and see if I can't improve my use of this beast. :) I'd really love to have a picture of "Sam," my spider. LOL
