While I have been to Wyoming, I have not lived there for more than a week or two.

But my job is there now, so I am going.

Now, If DF is tired of there, looking for a place where he can ply his trade better.
I have a nice two bedroom house on a double lot, all fenced in with a 2 1/2 car garage.
I will be selling sometime soon.
It is north of Chicago, about an hour north. lots of work for a computer geek.

PM me for details if you are looking.

Hi Destin,
Please allow me to elaborate so as to minimize the confusion and assumption that can easily be applied to my simple, genuine question. I remember when a member called "nuffsaid" posted:

And frankly, your constant whining about your circumstances is now beyond tiresome.  Are you being physically held in Wyoming by chains?  If not, since things are so bad for you there, here's a hint: MOVE. Get your sorry, whiny ass full of excuses out of there. The only thing that is keeping you from leaving that "hell hole" is YOU.  Many millions of people have moved from truly terrible places to places that are still bad compared to Wyoming and yet they managed to thrive.  Instead of constantly complaining and making excuses, make the necessary changes. Instead of spending time and energy bellyaching, use that time and energy to plan your escape. Only this time, scout out the prospective destinations more thoroughly.... Good luck.  I truly hope you find happiness somewhere.

You replied with:

Nuffsaid is an existing member here who didn't have the guts to insult me using their regular account...

So rather than be underhanded or "gutless," I thought it would more respectful to ask you directly. I am sure you noticed that I chose my words carefully. I didn't say you were complaining or harping or whining. Even when the above hubbub was happening I wrote,

It sounds like Destin is very passionate about sharing his experiences with his move to Wyoming. It also sounds like the warnings have perhaps run their course as members have been reading his warnings for years in many, many different threads.

Perhaps there is a win-win scenario that might satisfy all parties?

Destin could be provided his own thread in let’s say the gulch area, which could be stickied for X amount of time. Here he could share his knowledge, stories, experiences, and frustrations – all the warnings about moving to Wyoming. This would allow newcomers and onlookers the chance to read such warnings without having to search through all the threads in which his warnings appear...

...which I think clearly demonstrates that I am not "carping." I truly thought it was a good idea!

In fact, I have even stated,

Destin - I pray that you meet folks of different stripes because it makes me sad to read your constant stories of knowing such a narrow sampling of individuals and families... :)

I am an "entity" who is neutral about quite a few things in life. Wyoming, a state I have been to several times, is like any other state in that it has highlights and drawbacks. For me, the crux of my question was not about whether Wyoming is "good" or "bad," but rather why do you want to share your concerns again and again? I asked because I care about your frustration. I am curious who you believe your target audience is - who are you expecting to reach?

Why not start a thread about your concerns with living in Wyoming? Perhaps doing so would prove helpful: it would allow you to have an outlet, and it would allow others to consider your opinions thoughtfully. Consider also sharing what you are doing to remedy your situation. Sharing with others how you are overcoming obstacles would be encouraging!

I hope it's understood that when I post a smiley face it conveys my lighthearted intention of having a mature discussion. After all you did say,

Moonbeam.... Destin Faruda thinks you're certainly right and won't be sulking, taking his ball and going home like a little weenie bitch, well, certainly not for being picked on by an amusing, if occasionally opposing view.

...which tells me that you don't look for offense where none exists.

PS - Can anyone tell me where unicorns do tootle rainbows (and poop Skittles)?! :)

No M.L. *YOU* give it a rest with your incessant portrayal of those who " dare" to state the realities of Wyo as some sort of " snivelers who can't cope".......because it's bullshit.

Truth is truth , you can try to muzzle it and paint a rosy picture if you wish.

Really? Can you link to some examples? I seem to remember stating my own personal experiences and being vilified for that. But maybe not. Examples would help.

Interesting that you and DF can have very strongly worded opinions, but mine are not acceptable... Why is that, I wonder?

I liked Cheyenne, but I left when I was 18, 25 years before my political awakening in 1999 or thereabouts.

* Destin Faruda formatted this with several addressees and used some color to break up the sections into more easily digestible pieces for those not inclined to read the whole thing...  If you see your name in color, that section is for you specifically.
* Destin Faruda tried to keep it somewhat funny on a somewhat sore subject.

Woah, woah woah!  Whenever did I say that I didn't approve of you voicing yours, darlin' ?

Seriously, the big problem in Wyoming is that if you're old folks looking to retire, have a nest egg, and don't care for local work (pension, soc/sec, military bennies, etc) then YOURE SET.  I'm not aiming that at any particular people, but lets face it, other than oil work (now dead) and mine work (being slowly dying) Wyoming has NOTHING but government.

This should be VERY RELEVANT TO YOUNG LIBERTARIANS OR MARKET ANARCHISTS SEEKING TO MOVE HERE.

See, if you move to a place where people talk nice to your face, and then avoid you business wise... and talk trash behind your back... that's a bad place to be.

--------------------------------
@Moonbeam:

Actually dear, I'm doing it specifically to warn potential other movers.  See, most of the other freestate boys and girls I knew who ARE YOUNG (at least as young as I am, or younger) have ALL run off.  Moved out of state, or out of country (I know one personally.)

People burn A LOT OF MONEY moving out here.  Wyoming is cheap rent, but cheap rent plus long travel distances, plus  hostile locals plus low local incomes and businesses unwilling to spend money except with their cousin's cousin's daughter... well, that's a recipe for disaster... financial disaster.

Which brings me to:
----------------------------
@Julio

I'd love to buy your place and move to an area where there's money to be made, but lets face it... I am spoiled on guns.  I'd like to get back to making money AND shooting guns.  In that case, DENVER would look better than Chicago.  At least in Denver, they're working to remove those mag limitations those idiots in the state government worked to put in.

That said, Texas is looking more and more appealing by the day.  Not sure about all the Corexit and oil mixtures wafting about the gulf there... but the inland areas are starting to look more and more appealing.

Wait... didn't @bennie say something about Texas being pretty freakin' cool to live in... other than the (now defunct) carry/print issues with guns?

DF
I can understand your thinking.
the only real bite I have with IL is the damn FOID card you need to buy anything.
But last time I looked there was not limit on mags, at least not yet.
3 day wait on long guns, 5 days on hand.

but to each there own.

WOW....I thought that NYS was bad. There is no limit on the # of mags, but there is a limit on capacity. There is NO wait on long guns or handguns. Permit required for handguns, but no restrictions on long guns. You do still have to pass a background check though. That takes about 15 minutes, so I guess there IS a waiting period. 15 minutes! Realistically, I could leave now, and be back home with 10 new guns (with ammo) in 1 hour.

Ill does not have a limit on the number of, or the size of the mags ether.
The FOID is like a permit, just for everything. still have the back ground check and all too.
The City is the only real A-hole place, but out in the Subs, is not to bad. get out in to the country and you would hardly notice anything, other than having the damn FOID card.

This is better, Destin! It's a little more specific than some of your previous vague generalities. I started a thread over in the wonderful area that Mama Liberty created that I hope will be helpful. Perhaps you will consider utilizing this specific thread to better organize your thoughts and to help others from having to roam all over the boards to seek your opinion. I would love to learn more about how you are overcoming these challenges because such sharing is universal and encouraging. :)

How sad ...  A thread entitled "good neighbors" is the happy home of carping, nitpicking, insults, accusations, apologies and jabbering about who said what, meaning what.

Sigh.

When someone hurls an insult your way, you are offered an opportunity... keep travelling in a pleasant world or launch yourself bodily into the muck with them.
