I live here so of course I'm biased...

Richest soil around.  Tilling up your garden area and seeing all that black gold is breathtaking.  You know your plants will be bringing forth some pretty sweet fruit in that stuff.

Need a permit to purchase/carry a weapon but that is par the course for most of the country.

Homeschooling is well accepted and continues to gain ground.

Weather... well, 3 out of 4 ain't bad.  Darn cold winters but April to October is pretty nice.

So c'mon down/up/over to Iowa.  We'll have a pile of sweet corn and a 1" thick pork chop waiting for you.
I need abundant game, trees, hills, mountains, streams, rivers, ponds, lakes....etc..... within walking distance for 100 miles in every direction. Oh...and very few catastrophic storms, such as tornadoes. As much as I would LOVE to join your group, you can't find all of those characteristics in Iowa. I'm not knocking it, just stating that it's not for me. :dontknow:

Then you need to be in western NC, eastern TN, northeast GA, northwest SC, southwestern VA, or southern WV. They don't call it God's Country for nothin'.

one mans "God's country" is another mans hell.
been to most of those areas as well as Northwestern Arkansas, Northeastern OK, southern MO, but what ever makes you happy is good.

Understood,...but I was catering to a list of specific criteria established by a specific individual. Naturally, there I is no perfect place for all.

Me...I love the mountain life, but I really enjoy a coastal, tropical lifestyle too. Since I am trying to downsize and simplify, having a beach house and a mountain house is not practical. My solution, ...a mountain homestead and coastal vacations. I feel safer and more prepared in the mountains.

I like the mountain life too. It's always a tactical advantage to occupy the high ground.

I have been to all of those places and agree that it would fit my criteria. Especially southwestern VA, or southern WV. Those areas are as close to my current locale as possible. It's more beautiful here though.
