How to build yourself into being "the fantasy"

The things that annoy her about this 21st-century beatnik – his enthusiasm for natural food, literature, great music, Burning Man, and sitting on a rooftop in New York – all sound like very cool activities. One senses that Breslaw envies the pixie’s freedom. She wants to be a part of his dream.  And yet, she also clearly wants the MPDB to be more masculine; in defiance of feminist dogma, she yearns for a little less manic pixie dust and a lot more ambition (and testosterone).

Where have all the good men gone? The answer is: they have been snatched up, held onto, eradicated from the marketplace, because they are so few in number. And there will be fewer still, barring a backlash of some kind.

Quote
Why does someone like Nick Offerman, the actor who portrays the beloved (and hilarious) Ron Swanson, a gun-toting libertarian character on NBC’s sitcom Parks & Recreation, stand out in such an intriguing and ironic way? Because he’s a man. Being a man is now “intriguing and ironic.”

I happened to catch a recent episode of The Nerdist podcast and the three uber-nerds who host the show (all post-thirty, unmarried dudes) were chatting with actor Jason Schwartzman (who has made a living playing the effeminate, hapless loser in multiple films) about how they were all fascinated by Nick Offerman and “just how manly and commanding he is in person.”

Even these four dainty dopes sitting around in Ms. Pac-Man t-shirts recognized he had something they didn’t–and they wanted whatever that was. Of course they didn’t want it badly enough to put down their light sabres and head to the lumber yard or Scottish caber toss competition with Mr. Offerman, but the fact remains that when confronted with traditional manliness, they were attracted to it. Yet the safety of their nerd-nest, the delusional world where weeping outside an Apple store when the stranger who invented your iPod dies, won out because they knew there’d be no judging from the legions of other man-boys running around these days.

As we now better understand the "Marlboro man" or that lost rugged masculine man dripping with testosterone is biologically programed into women (straight healthy and now most likely divorced)...

How do we build ourselves into the desired medium of entertainment that attracts them?

Ooh, interesting! I look forward to hearing what the menfolk have to say about the bastardization of masculinity!

I've read all the articles and It has me thinking but I haven't yet formulated my own reply…

But I didn't want you to think that everyone was ignoring your post.

I grew up reading Edgar Rice Burroughs and Robert E Howard.

I believed that "Civilized Behavior" was Effeminate and Barbarism was Masculine.

My own attempt to act like a "Barbarian" involved self consciously being a lout…

Slouching, belching, using non-standard English, eschewing anything that even remotely smacked of "Culture" or "Refinent"—what have you.

In retrospect, much of this was misdirected.

If I had a "Do-Over" I'd change a number of things.

Did anyone watch the brief TV series "Outlaw Dove: The Outlaw Years"? Colonel Mosby would be a good template to try to emulate.

Men should never ever never be Overtly Sexual around women.

I know about ZAP, but nothing makes me WANT to backhand someone so much as hearing a man tell a woman that he has "NEEDS".

You don't have "Needs" you inbred trailer trash. You have WANTS.

You NEED Vitamin C. Go without long enough and your gums will bleed and your teeth will fall out.

Going without waking sexual release will simply cause more wet dreams.

Ask yourself:

"Would this have been appropriate behavior in Upper Class Victorian Circles?" Then why do you want to set your sights on a lessor creed?

Gosh and Gollies…

Men should do like in the old days (northern Europe, 800 CE) :

1. wear kilts
2. eat offal (Haggis anyone?)
3. carry swords
4. drink mead
5. form kindreds who drink together and fight shoulder-to-shoulder in the shield wall
6. tell stories of hunts and battle in front of roaring fires in the mead hall
7. fight bears
8. cook in a cave
9. raid churches and monasteries looking for treasure
10. wear a wolf's cross when in christian countries, and a hammer at home
11. paint themselves blue and run butt-naked into battle
12. tell your kids that if they leave out treats for Odin and Slepnir, that Odin will leave them a gift in their socks
13. play bagpipes

Well, I guess women can do this too, if they want to.

100% agreement, projecting masculine energy is not just "barbarism" (a hint of this is good - never ignore our primitive natures).

If I had a "Do-Over" I'd change a number of things.

Did anyone watch the brief TV series "Outlaw Dove: The Outlaw Years"? Colonel Mosby would be a good template to try to emulate.

Not familiar with this but I would suggest that something similar would be "Hell on Wheels" with the main former southern fighter Cullen Bohannon (played by Anson Mount) a re-interpritation of the older Clint Eastwood westerns.

Men should never ever never be Overtly Sexual around women.

I am beginning to think that we may actually agree on this issue - because it is subjective I would ask for specifics.

We are a dimorphic species, so in effect we cannot (with a healthy fit body) ever exclude our overt sexuality, add "masculine energy" and good grooming and personal cleanliness and well fitting clothes and magic - oozing male sexiness...

Sending a text picture of your "junk" - bad form.

Learning the subtle art of female communication and using that to escalate your sexual innuendo and energy - good form.

You NEED Vitamin C. Go without long enough and your gums will bleed and your teeth will fall out.

But women can? as in is is justified to be stoic and suffer if there is no social equal. (This is a bigger issue than one would think BTW - more later).

Yet I agree - not need, desire yes but there is no "need" - in some circles this is called "thirst" and is a sign of a weak male personality.

That is a teenage problem, it does not persist.

If you are talking about "preferred victorian social expectations" some may be OK at best - the actual behavior of the Victorian "upper class" (read that as oligarchical "white" trash as far as I perceive them) is far from ideal.

Self improvement for yourself FIRST much follows.

Many years ago I read That something like 98% of men who cannot find a Sexual Partner…er, ahem…masturbate.

For the other 2% who do have functioning testicles, the semen accumulates and it needs to be expelled somehow. Wet dreams are hoW this gets done.

By the way,the same book said that erotic dreams don't cause nocturnal emissions. The cause is physiological and the dream is an after-the-fact and very slightly behind the curve rationalization of the fact.

The Colonel Mosby character was a dispossesed aristocrat from Virginia. He was unfailingly polite, rarely raised his voice and was charming.

Nonetheless he projected an air of menace somehow. I'm not sure that this is possible in the real world. Be as potentially dangerous as you will, fools won't notice and they will still provoke you.

By the way, Mosby was the show's villain.

One of my favorite exchanges was when Call pointed his sawed-off shotgun at Mosby's head at close range.

"Call, if you pull that trigger you'll never leave here alive."

"Neither will you."

I'm so sorry... I guess I am not understanding your point. Will you please clarify? :) I don't have a problem with where they are stealing per se. I just don't see how stealing would be considered manly? :)

Whether stealing is right or wrong, nonetheless it takes a certain amount of courage to lay one's life on the line to try to rob people at gun, knife or sword point.

Life was hard enough in olden times. Horses or cattle could crush you underfoot. Wolves or bears might attack you. There weren't many bridges, sometimes it was necessary to ford a stream and that could result in drowning.

The Vikings—the ones who took an active part in raiding—kicked both the old risk and benefit into the old heavy duty bracket.

Sure Vikings were generally tougher and better prepared than their clients but confronting an angry—or scared—client with a sword or axe is probably a worse risk than putting your oxen in a yoke and plowing your field.

I understand the appeal of Viking men. I just consider theft evil. So for me there is nothing manly about stealing. :)

By Viking law, if you killed them first, it wasn't stealing. And theft from the living was considered a great sin.

Well sure... Put that way, murder would make mere theft irrelevant... to the murderers and thieves anyway.

What was it you were talking about to begin with?
