My Guns Article on Medium

I started perusing Medium.com a week or so ago. Got their iPhone app. Added them to my daily browser visits. I've been doing mostly tech blogging of late, and mostly tech responses on Medium, but this morning I was for some reason motivated to write about guns.

Very nice. I'm interested to hear the responses. Can you keep us updated on that? I want to gauge the feel of the site before I sign up. Thanks.

Medium is very well done, technically. Beautiful site. Very easy to use WYSIWYG editor. All accessible from the iPhone app, and likely the Android app, though I haven't tried that one. Probably more hoplophobe sentiment than not, but you choose what you see. Before this morning, I've been following only technical tags, so I haven't seen politics. I'd wager I'll soon get tired of the "ban our guns so the bad guys can't hurt us, oh gods in DC" and back off to only technical stuff. But I'm not a gambling man.

The best method I've found so far for changing peoples minds on guns and gun control is to invite them out to the range with me. Carefully walk them through the various safety and best practices while keeping it light and relaxed. So far I've created at least three gun hobbyist this way. I think there's something here about people being paranoid at the preconceived power someone else might have over them that seeds this anti-gun mindset, but I might be reaching here.

Maybe the next exercise will be an attempt at making individuality just as attractive. :D
