Mr Orwell's book "1984" is supposed to be a warning not a handbook.  Why are people volunteering to surrender their control over their lives and possessions?

I must be really getting old. I do not understand this kind of behavior at all.

I've asked a lot of people that question when it has come up and the answer has always been "I don't agree with you that it is surrendering control, you just don't trust people to look after your information - I do.  I think it is a good use of technology, and you can't stop progress and you are just a luddite anyway, and the convenience of doing this makes it all worthwhile".

At that I just sigh and give up.

Yep. I hear you loud and clear. (5X5 in mil-speak)
Not much to be gained by people who do not see and do not want to hear the truth hidden in plain sight.

Have you seen the cartoon depicting the OSHA approved Cowboy?
(A cowboy on a horse with a safety net mounted on the horse as well as hard hats for both horse and cowboy, protective gear for both huge thick gloves (welder style) et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.) Pretty funny for those who are familiar with horseback riding. For those who are familiar with actual cattle wrangling they are too stupid to be serious.

There is another one from back in the sixties (R. Crumm maybe?) that shows the evolved humans of the 25th century (I think it was) who were child like with large heads wearing diapers riding in a motorized contraption with a computer screen and mouse mounted on the conveyance. (And this was before the advent of the "Personal Computer".) There are food tubes and radio antennae as well. Basically showing the humans having Devolved back into helpless children living on computerized sleds depending upon the computer based "Government" to support their living completely.

Note to self: I should try to find those images and post them here on the silly thread. Or maybe the "Not so silly" thread.

I found the first image, but not the second. I did find the modern equivalent though. It's from the movie Wall-e. It always reminds me of the fat people riding scooters around in Walmart. "Wall-e World".

I posted them here-

I guess I'll put the Cowboy after OSHA up over there as well.

Drawn by a fellow named Sam Hane.

"neener neener?" Is that English? [wink]
