Hah, I'll bite. My dad's business, yeah, he tried to get help from the unions when the local non union people in the market were largely druggies, drunk or incompetent (its a plague in construction in EVERY market, it just is, those of you in construction or any of the heavy construction related fields can easily verify I'm telling the truth.) (Ours was air conditioning, plumbing and gas fitting, I have none of the licenses, but I bet I can keep my own with the journeymen and masters any day, and probably outdo them, dad offered a 7 year warranty on workmanship!! It was claimed twice in more than a decade of work by him, with my help and occasionally my mom when she had time off and I didn't. This was in a busy growing market a hundred miles south of DC... busy... very busy. He always had to micromanage his other employees to make sure the work was up to his standards. I still think we should have charged far more after our name got out. Seriously, the hardware failed before any of our work ever did. We were THAT good.)
Anyways, those union boys? They moved in and started making and demanding changes, and after dad tried bidding several jobs using ONLY union labor (they demand you only use their guys) and failed to outbid a single other contractor, he called it quits and refused to accept the union boys. This is America, people here shop by cheap, not by good. Even if all those union guys were top grade workers, the consumers of America want chinese pricing. Quality will never float except when selling to big businesses and super rich. It is the way it is.
