Can't remember if you told us but how many acres?

Got the spot for the well picked out yet?  Where's the gun range?  I don't see a hammock with a small table holding a glass of lemonade anywhere in those pictures...

Far more important is to protect them from the deer. I have about two dozen "trees" that are hardly (or not at all) as tall as they were when planted 11 years ago (out of the 360 trees I planted then). The deer destroy the growing tops yearly, and I have no idea how any of these few survive at all. But they'll never be actual trees, I'm afraid.

No fun indeed! 

Another reason I love Iowa.  When putting in my garden fence the top 24 inches was beautiful black dirt.  Took me less than 5 minutes to dig a 3-foot hole.

that is part of the challenge, to change the soil from clay to good humus dirt.

well, scored a nice generator, 2010 troy-built 6000w generator for $ 350. on craigslist.

looks almost brand new. also picked up a gas power post pounder, and a one man earth drill.

still walking forwards, one step at a time
