Police Union Leader Demands Ohio Governor Restrict Open Carry at RNC

"On Sunday, the day before the start of the Republican National Convention, Stephen Loomis, the president of the Cleveland Police Patrolman’s Association, sent a letter to Ohio Governor John Kasich asking him to restrict Ohio’s “open carry” law for Cuyahoga County for a week:
We are …. requesting assistance from him. He could very easily do some kind of executive order or something — I don’t care if it’s constitutional or not at this point.".....
  (Emphasis mine)

"Within hours Governor Kasich’s office responded, saying he would do no such thing: “Ohio governors do not have the power to arbitrarily suspend federal and state constitutional rights or state laws, as suggested.” The convention chairman, Jeff Larson, echoed Kasich’s response: “The governor can’t simply say, I’m going to relax [the law] for a day.” Besides, said Larson, “The open carry laws in Ohio haven’t changed.… They’ve been in effect for quite some time. [We’ve] had a number of big events that have taken place with open carry without any issues.” (again emphasis mine)

For emphasis, Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams said he is making sure that his officers respect the citizens’ rights to carry, open or concealed, adding that he wants to “make sure [my] officers are not taken aback when they see that activity.” ...

Yeah but....

These clowns just HAD to figure out how to "ban" something! Morons.

Cleveland says protesters can carry guns, but not tennis balls
http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2016/07/18/cleveland-says-protesters-can-carry-guns-but-not-tennis-balls.html

While guns are allowed, city leaders have banned dozens and dozens of
other weapons and gadgets – from selfie sticks to athletic equipment and
cans.

So you can carry an AR-15 outside the security perimeter - but you
cannot carry tennis balls or cans of pork and beans.

This morning there was a severe thunderstorm in Cleveland – but lots of
folks got drenched – because it’s against the rules to carry an umbrella.

City Hall says they have every right to implement the ban because pork
and beans and umbrellas are not covered under the open carry law.

Heaven help the person who brings a tennis ball to a gun fight in a
rainstorm with an umbrella.

The umbrellas were probably banned so the facial recognition cameras could work unimpeded. Tennis balls and cans were probably banned so people had less things to throw at police.

It's a human right to carry whatever you want wherever you want, as long as you don't victimize someone.  No one can lawfully restrict what you carry. Someone needs to exercise their rights and test those clowns in Cleveland. The right to bear arms is not granted by the constitution. It's inherent like all other rights.

Exactly! And a darn good idea to carry some if you must go into a crowd, I think. But it shows the utter idiocy and futility in trying to "ban" things.  Splash, did you ever read "Rebel Fire: Out of the Gray Zone" by Claire Wolfe? Lots and lots of ideas to thwart facial recognition in that story... on top of it being a wonderful read otherwise.  https://www.amazon.com/RebelFire-Gray-Zone-Claire-Wolfe/dp/0964230488/ref=sr_1_6?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1468924858&sr=1-6&keywords=Claire+Wolfe

Not to be picky but I would certainly NOT want to put marbles on a floor where people were trying to escape from a dangerous situation nor to provide a hazard to the innocent. Maybe a sling or sling shot and marbles where you could be selective in your targets.

That makes sense. Always select targets carefully. :)
