The Myth of Male Power
« on: October 08, 2016, 01:01:31 pm »

I should have put this up months ago when I finished the book, but I was afraid the women that come to this board might not appreciate my reviewing this book.

The Myth of Male Power by Warren Farrell.

https://www.amazon.com/Myth-Male-Power-Warren-Farrell-ebook/dp/0671793497/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1475948191&sr=1-1&keywords=the+myth+of+male+power

Let's get one thing right off the bat. The author is an apologist for the women's movement. Mainly apologizing to women for the so-called crap they face by men. Don't get me wrong, women did need some equalizing and such and I don't fault them for that. But it is possible to go too far in some areas. He was dismayed by the men's lack of listening to the women about their movement, having a hard time with them. Then he started listening to men to find out why and started to do the research to see if their concerns were valid. They were. So he started writing on the men's side in the hopes of starting a dialog between the sexes so that both sides can move forward together.

Good idea, right? A little more background on Farrell, when he was helping the women, he actually gotten pretty high in the hierarchy of the NOW group, being on the board and everything. He had gotten famous and a pretty good income from doing all this. When he started defending men, it was not well received by the women, especially by those in NOW. Guess what happen? He eventually had to strike out on his own and somehow get money elsewhere.

In the book he explained how things actually benefitted women, often at the cost of men's lives.

The book is not that expensive, and you could probably find it in your local library. If you want a clearer view on the relationship between men and women, I strongly suggest reading this book, especially if you're a man or support men's rights and issues. As they say, if you want to really know an "argument", it helps to see all sides of the issue.

When it comes to men's issues, this is a core book to read. Unfortunately some women would dismiss this book simply because it was written by a man. Also unfortunate, is that even after having written this book the author is still an apologist for women, fortunately that doesn't take too much away from the book.

I strongly recommend getting this book.

Don't know why you'd think the women at TMM would not be willing to consider this post?

I have a big problem with ALL the "gender" bullshit. Every single human being on the planet has the same rights, the same responsibility for themselves and dependents, and the same legitimate power to exercise them.  The problems come when some use force to impose their desires... or the power of emotional blackmail.  It is up to the individual (and their families) to resist, to cast off the conditioning and blackmail.

Here is a terrific book on the entire subject: http://www.wendymcelroy.com/news.php

ML,

There's reasons I am also an Individualist, believing in individual rights and believe that laws should be gender neutral and such.

The reason I am writing about this is that in my "research" I have found the hostilities against "Men's issues" to be unbelievable, especially by women. Don't get me wrong, women faces some shit mainly from men, I know that. But I think that in comparison the crap men faces may actually be a whole lot worse. That's probably debatable.

What men are doing now is nowhere near vitriolic as the women have been. If men are not to have a dismal future, without a freedom movement, then men need to organize, as women have done with NOW and such. That's a main thread all the book calls for.

Please read Wendy's book, SJ. :) She covers the history very well, and has some suggestions for remedies. Men forming a battle line against the "feminists" isn't one of them.  And you'd discover that the feminazies don't speak for most women. The media pushing this is a major problem, distorting the whole picture... naturally.

Please understand that I'm NOT lumping all women in with the Feminazis. I've seen evidence that not all women support the  Feminazis. Hell, I've posted a couple of videos that was done by women. See my post in the video section as well as the names I've given Claire.

As for "battle lines" well, I was only describing what the books I've read so far have basically proscribe. All I know is that something have to be done, even if only going on strike.

All I know is that something have to be done, even if only going on strike.

Slippery slope with the "do something!" LOL  A lot of liberals, etc. say that about gun control. The "do something, even if it doesn't work." Needs some deep thought, and a hell of a lot of cooperation from the general population. What sort of "strike" are you thinking of?

I "went on strike" 30 years ago when my husband died. I've been celibate ever since. Doesn't seem to have helped with anyone else's problems.... but I'm enjoying my life as a self owner. :)

Going on strike in my case would be just living my life and not letting anyone get any say in it, to the best of my ability.

As for organizing, well, I've never been very much into groups, for various reasons. I've only brought up organizations because I found that there are actually a lot of female organizations, not just NOW, of various sizes in many different parts of the country. One reason the feminists have been able to do a lot of damage. I believe even you can admit that once you find the same.

It's also not only America that has the problem. Over the pond in England, there is one woman that almost full out laugh at the concept of Men's Rights.

I know you can't watch videos, but you can look at the text that'll prove what I'm talking about.

As for activisism, everybody's an individual and thus will have different ways to deal with it. Mine is just living my life. I also believe that Karma will eventually sort this out. Nature has ways to kick someone in the ass when they get too far in something.

Exactly. That was my point. :)  I am very aware of the problems with both male and now female dominance, PC bullshit and father's rights. I've been active helping my youngest son go through a horrible divorce the last two years, dealing with the courts in California to establish custody for his sons. He's broke over it, and may always be broke because of it. He can't afford a lawyer, so he has worked hard to understand the "law," and discover how to work the system. So far he's winning the battle.

The amazing thing is that, even in So. Calif., the miserable, liberal courts were soon convinced that his x-wife was dangerous to the boys, granting him full physical custody. She can't even visit unless she pays a court appointed social worker to monitor it.  We're just hoping that she will finally give up (not much chance) and go back home to South Africa...

It is easy to think that someone else, or some specific group has all the tools and influence... but that is seldom true. If a man can find justice in So. Calif... he just might manage it elsewhere. :)

Yeah, unfortunately that's usually the case. For the mother to lose custody, she usually has to be proven that she's not just bad, but so blatantly bad. That's was one of the points the books make.

in family court, a woman just has to say "it" is so, but a man has to prove "it" is so.
even in ILL, but no matter what, the man loses.

Yup!

10%.  The percentage of total cases in which the custody of kids goes to the Dad.

FYI, I've decided to get Wendy's book on my kindle and is now a quarter into the book. I'll put up a review once I finished reading the book and have had time to think it through.

Also, as for battle lines, I already know that's won't work.
