Hearing aids connected to the internet?
« on: April 19, 2017, 02:15:10 pm »

Oh, I don't THINK so. Just got a letter from the vendor of the hearing aids I got last year. They are promoting a new kind with even more advanced computing power and promise better understanding of human speech... the part I have the most trouble with. But then, they eagerly tell me that this is the world's first internet connected hearing device. WTH??? ... a full array of wireless possibilities. Uh... no. It connects directly to your iPhone... Ummm, no thanks. Don't have one. Don't want one, and sure as hell don't want to be connected to the internet that way.

But it makes me wonder if my current devices might somehow allow "someone" to listen in. Gives me the shivers - though I think they would long ago have grown tired of my monologue with the dog and the orchids.  Maybe I should disable the wi-fi on my DSL modem. But I don't know how.

When I go driving in my car, I always assume the NSA is listening to me via my cell phone. Occasionally I say the following to the nobody else in my car:

Quote
Hey, you! NSA guy. Do the world a favor. Take your sidearm out of its holster. Load a round, if for some strange reason you don't carry that way. Take it off safe. Put the barrel in your mouth, and pull the trigger.

Whoa! That's hostile. But I suspect that the most of the "listening" is now done with computers, no humans involved. If humans are involved, I highly doubt they have anything more lethal at their desk than a latte...

But what the heck. If it makes you happy. :)
