Learned that when I was eight or ten. Somewhere in there. You know how boys push the limits on things. Was a real good trick on the playground when the other boys would start talking about how tough they were. Pull out a match and light it on a tooth, watch the jaws drop!

You brought a MATCH to school?!  And started a fire with it?!?  Think of the children!  You could have burned the entire town to the ground!!
 ;p

I would have loved to see the looks on their faces.

that would have been about 1980. I also carried a pocket knife.

Ice storm hitting us today and our power went out around 9 this AM.  So I fired up the wood stove (day started in the 40s and quickly dropped to below freezing around the time power went out).  Around 11 I decided to get the generator going.  Wheeled her into place, fired it up, hooked up the cable and came inside to flip the switch.  My hand was literally inches from the xfer switch when I heard the furnace kick in.  I paused... did I hit the switch?  or was power restored?  I checked upstairs and yep, the power companies had restored power.  Ah well, I was ready for it!

It was so cold, the hand pump on my well froze up but I had saved enough water that I heated a pot on my wood stove, poured the hot water over the pump AND primed it with same and it unfroze enough to start flowing. Whew!
