Heh... I joined a few coworkers for a brew years ago to celebrate the birthday.  I was an Air National Guard veteran surrounded by a bunch of Jar Heads.  I related the story how I was in Arizona for two weeks during the very brutal hot month of March.  While sitting in the hotel room my a/c went out for about an hour.  It was terrible.

Fortunately I didn't get beat up!

Ah then, the party is tonight! One of the watering holes here in town throws a party for it each year. Wish I could go... but it starts well past my bedtime. LOL

Quotes from LTGEN Smedley Butler:
-----
I spent thirty-three years and four months in active military service as a member of this country's most agile military force, the Marine Corps. I served in all commissioned ranks from Second Lieutenant to Major-General.  And during that time, I spent most of my time being a high-class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street, and for the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer for capitalism.
[..]
My mental faculties remained in suspended animation while I obeyed the orders of the higher-ups. This is typical with everyone in the military.
----

Two things:  "capitalism" should read "crony-capitalism" or "fascism" and, it's actually the squirrels (!) that are running things.

I never even suspected it was the squirrels.

Does this include ground squirrels and gophers?

Smedley wrote that book in 1934 IIRC. and it hasn't made a bit of difference.

It seems to be mostly for posting in forums, which I frequently do.

I once asked a Marine why we never said Good night Smedley wherever you are.

There wasn't an answer.

Why are you referencing a fictional comic book superhero?
