Calirornia Bill would require women on corporate boards
« on: August 10, 2018, 10:52:44 pm »

Looks like the state of California wants to go "Justin Trudeau" and normalise government interference in private companies.  As well as the inevitable insult to women who make in on the boards of companies purely on their own merit - not just because of government bullying the company to include them - and the constant feelings of inadequacy (you know?  Always wondering "am I really good enough or am I just here because of this "requirement"?) there might be comments - or at least tacit statements - from others, to this effect.

What do you think?

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — The state of California is paving the way for more women to serve in positions of power in companies.
“It’s a world where all you see are men in the boardroom. I find it very hard to believe only men can qualify,” said state Sen. Hannah Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara).
Sen. Jackson is determined to change that. She’s pushing Senate Bill 826 which would make California the first state to require companies to hire women on their corporate boards of directors or face a fine.

“Women on boards of directors perform better for their shareholders,” she said.
Yet she says, of the 445 publicly traded companies in California, a quarter of them lack a single woman in their boardrooms.
And among the critics fighting to keep it that way is almost every chamber of commerce in the state. They argue, the bill discriminates against men. And it’s unconstitutional.
“We’re not saying we’re gonna kick men off the board. It says if you have a board of five people, all men, you have to add a position,” she said.

Shattering the glass ceiling? Or breaking down big businessmen? It’s now up to the politicians to decide.
“I’d rather women make it onto the boards rather than have it happen from here but whatever gets us forward,” one man said outside the state capitol.
The groups listed in opposition to the bill weren’t available for comment on this story.
As for the bill, it’s now on its way to the assembly before it can move to the governor’s desk for a vote.

I work with quite a few women at my place of employment.  Many in some pretty high-up spots.  The ones I personally know work their duffs off to get where they are now.  The mere mention of 'advancement due to what exists between your legs' really insults them.  They don't want to get into such positions based on that.  They work hard and will get into such positions based on merit.  Some are quite happy to be in the lower 'rank and file' spots.  Others want to climb the ladder.

Personally, I'm very content to be in the lower portion of the totem pole.  Any higher up and I would have to put in 60+ hours at the office.  I'd rather be at home with family and workin' the land!

Let CA do whatever the heck it wants.  The sooner that place sinks into the ocean the better.

And if California tipped over and capsized (we know now that that is possible, despite everything we learned at primary school about the structure of the earth, because a politician said that it could happen to Guam, so if Guam can "tip over" then so can any place) what would stop the rest of the continent from being dragged down under the ocean with it?

Hey people, this is now urgent, everybody here must gather all the earth moving equipment possible - bulldozers, diggers, shovels, spades, pick axes, even teaspoons (desperation here) - and dig a trench around California so it may be severed from the rest of the country and prevent everything else sinking along with California.

Of course there is an upside.  Imagine the fun to be had diving off the coast where California used to be and salvaging stuff.  And it would be an excellent way of instantly putting out the wildfires.
