Three articles you might find interesting
« on: December 04, 2018, 05:48:10 am »

Came across these, I got from them that the world is pretty much heading towards conflict, what do you reckon?

https://www.blacklistednews.com/article/69254/study-us-has-spent-nearly-6t-on-war-since.html

The United States is on track to have spent nearly $6 trillion on war since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, according to a report released Wednesday.
The annual analysis from the Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs at Brown University far exceeds Pentagon estimates because it looks at all war-related costs — including the Pentagon’s war fund, related spending at the State Department, veterans care and interest payments — for military operations in Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan and elsewhere.

n Israeli cabinet minister has warned that if the Syrians use their recently supplied advanced Russian air defense missiles to bring down Israeli planes over Israeli territory, the launchers would be targeted — even if that means endangering Russian military specialists at the launch sites.
Environmental Protection Minister Ze’ev Elkin, who is also co-chair of the Russia-Israel Intergovernmental Commission, told Russian media Monday that it was a “big mistake” for Moscow to supply its ally Syria with the S-300 missile system, because the advanced missiles, which are considered a significant threat to Israeli air power in the area, “might lead to destabilization of the situation.”

And:

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Wednesday afternoon that he will take over the role as Defense Minister.
Netanyahu’s decision to take over as Defense Minister comes just two hours after Avigdor Lieberman announced his resignation from this role.
Lieberman’s reason for resigning was due to his discontent over the recent ceasefire agreement that was established between the Palestinians and Israelis.

On the run up to the Iraq war rumsfeld said it would cost iirc 200 billion and be a cakewalk.  These people are consistently wrong about everything. None of the strategic objectives were accomplished by the war.  Millions dead and maimed, trillions wasted.

Seventeen years later the U.S. is still in Afghanistan in a war that can't be won.  I said that on a forum (in fact the FSW forum) and was told that I didn't understand grand strategy.

Guess I don't understand grand strategy.

As far as I know and some one please correct me if this is wrong, but the U.S. hasn't profited in any way from the oil in Iraq and as far as minerals in Afghanistan the same is true.  Maybe the Chinese are but the problem remains of how to extract, process and ship mineral wealth in a country that has zero infrastructure.

The Iraqi government is a hostile muslim government so bringing secular "democracy" to Iraq was an exceptionally stupid idea.
