Some would be taxed over 100% under Elizabeth Warren's plan
« on: November 18, 2019, 05:14:54 am »

I have tried to rationalise this out, even looked for articles saying that Elizabeth Warren really doesn't want to tax the "rich" out of existence, but I just can't.  Everything I read confirms these figures.  She really wants a "utopia" where everything is "free" (for the first few years anyway, until at last there is no one left to take money from - i.e. "the system" has 'run out of other peoples' money) and then EVERYONE will die in abject poverty.  Because everybody will realise the futility of working for a living when "the state" is happy to "provide" all their needs.  It would be great at the very beginning until the last illegal immigrant who has been brought into America to work to pay the taxes (which will inevitably "trickle down" from "tax the very rich" to "place exorbitant taxes on anyone we can et hold of") realises that he is better off not to work but to languish on "welfare" (which is decidedly not sustainable).

Then we have .. what?  Venezuela?  People in the streets under cardboard shelters, having eaten their pets and sold their children into slavery and eventually dying of diseases like typhoid fever, bubonic plague, cholera?

Elizabeth Warren's crusade against rich people is even worse than we thought. According to Richard Rubin of the Wall Street Journal, some millionaires and billionaires would experience tax rates of over 100 percent on investments under Warren's proposals.

Potential tax rates over 100% could result from the combination of tax increases the Massachusetts senator proposes for the very top tier of investors. She wants to return the top income-tax rate to 39.6% from 37%, impose a new 14.8% tax for Social Security, add an annual tax of up to 6% on accumulated wealth and require rich investors to pay capital-gains taxes at the same rates as other income even if they don't sell their assets.

Mouse,

Socialists/statists usually have at least two primary goals in high taxes. The first of course is to support big government AND buy the votes necessary to keep them in office by attracting a majority of voters by "free" giveaways, support or money.

The second is to keep capital from being accumulated to support private businesses, which they see as "competition" to government run endeavors. Elon Musk is a prime example of using profits (a dirty word to statists) from one successful private endeavor to launch others.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elon_Musk

I read somewhere that Bernie even desires to outlaw private charities because they might not distribute the charity to the "right" people and of course, government would.

Yes, "socialism always fails when it runs out of other peoples money" but that is usually after they have confiscated the productive businesses and run them into the ground. Thievery writ large.

I'm truly puzzled as to why this horrible system receives so much support.  It is destructive, benefits NOBODY in the long term, yet so many people seem to have devoted their lives to singing its praises.
