It's all about two classes of people. The "elites" and the "scum". And the mentality that "the average person (who is not the - hypothetical - believer in this theory of course) cannot be trusted with their own defence, the defence of others (family, children, the elderly, the vulnerable etc.) Or in fact controlling their own lives, so we (the 'elites'/the 'professionals') will have to take all the 'control'".
It is amazing how many people actually fall for this and genuinely believe that they themselves are in this "scum" class and need their "betters" to control them.
When "celebrities" or "people of influence" have this mentality, they are saying "I can employ others (body guards, "security people", "police", whom I delegate the responsibility of "owning and using" weapons to protect me, I don't have to worry about my safety and I (but the "celebrity" will still think of the people - the "security", "police" etc. - As "scum") And they can be safe in the knowledge that the other "scum" that they are being protected from don't have access to weapons because they are using their "celebrity" status to preach to them that they ARE lowly scum who cannot be trusted with anything and some of them have fallen for this idea.
For some strange reason a lot of people seem to think that their governments (or even a group of 'activists') will never "turn on them" but history has time and time again proved this theory to be false.
