This from the "comments" section says it all:

"Or imagine a communist state governor in Virginia that wants to identify all the folks that attended a rally in support of 2A, so he can use "red flag" laws, driven by "anonymous tips" to confiscate their firearms?'

For those who might say "I don't care, it will not affect me personally", that puts it into perspective.

The New York Times writes in an article titled “The Secretive Company That Might End Privacy as We Know It” that a new tech startup that has been working with law enforcement could raise serious privacy issues for members of the public
