2 midstate teens among aid team in Mississippi

Quote
Two 14-year-old members of the Civil Air Patrol are among about 30 central Pennsylvania residents from that organization who are helping with hurricane relief near Biloxi, Miss.

Jimmy Allen, a homeschooled student from Halifax, and Gabriel Goldsboro of Perry County, are the youngest members of the squadron on the trip. They are going door to door, taking a census, and handing out food and water, said Paul McDonough, the commander of the Civil Air Patrol squadron based at the Defense Distribution Center in Fairview Twp.

The Civil Air Patrol is an auxiliary of the Air Force with about 58,000 members nationwide, including 27,000 cadets ages 12 to 21. Members perform search and rescue missions and disaster relief, and cadets learn leadership skills.

McDonough said the squadron invited homeschooled cadets, who have less trouble getting time off, to make the trip.
