New member here, MtnGeek checking in from just outside The Peoples Republik of Portland (Oregon). I was taken to SurvivalBlog by a very excellent PDF discussing the outbreak of Avian Influenza and how to prepare for self-sustainability and care for sick family. While I'm probably not as avid of a gulcher as some here and on SurvivalBlog, I do enjoy reading the experts threads here on everything from Water&Food to safety and survival. Certainly has caused me to re-evaluate the items I've had in my Hunker-Down kits since 9/11 and expand them.

Here!  Yeah, I'm the same "Doug Carlton" on the blog.  This will be an excellent venue to hash out some of the things brought up on the blog in more detail, and more interactive which is always better.

I agree Doug.  There are several topics on survivalblog that I would like to discuss with other readers.  Especially those of us with profiles there.
But first I suppose I should search the old topics here instead of starting new threads covering the same ground.  More to come.

Today's blog posts are primarily about provisioning.  There is an article on MRE storage life and another about how to spot the many pseudonyms for MSG on food ingredient labels.

In the near future, I plan to write about the pros and cons of getting Pneumovax innoculations (in anticipation of a potential Asian Avian Flu pandemic) as well as an article about "selling at the top" in the current housing bubble. The pin prick is appoaching...

I liked Rawles' book. Never laughed so hard in my life.  As if it's a bit easier to hit dodging, cover using men with a .50 BMB than any other rifle. As if men just stand around waiting to be shot, fully exposed, stationary, and so on. Realistic combat targets can't be reliably hit much beyond 200 yds, by anyone, with any rifle, cartridge, or sighting system, and I can prove it.
