Any TCFers going to the FSW Jam?
« on: April 21, 2006, 04:49:12 pm »

After reading "Molon Labe", I think Boston has a very workable plan for Wyoming.

I've decided to go up to their Jamboree Memorial Day weekend to check things out and meet the folks (info in his forum).

Any TCFers planning to go? Would like to meet some of y'all too.

Cool, Americus. I'll be at where ever the jam is. Flying into Casper on the 25th and will rent a car to drive up on Fri. I'll get the second round.

I will be there, and I am dragging my parents along. Gotta get them more firearms educated.  ^_^

great Max.

I, at least, can maybe get your mom into things. Not very experienced with the long guns but maybe can talk her into a small revolver. Love my little Taurus .38 snubby--is very concealable, minimal recoil with the rubber grips, and very accurate at close range. I'll chat with her. There will be other women there to talk to her as well. Your dad, on the other hand, will have lots of guys talking to him. lol.

Will look forward to seeing you there.

My Mom will be armed with my 10/22, my Dad with his SKS. I will have my SKS. We will all be ready to learn.

I'll buy the third round, though that will have to be on Sunday evening, because I want to be as alert as possible for the shoot.

Max,

I just bought a Ruger 10/22 today, the plastic one. I was at the indoor range which is very close to me to practice with my revolver (the rifle range is a bit of a drive). Well, they allow rifles in pistol calibers so i was able to take my lever-action .357 too. I'm really new to long guns even though I've got some mil-surp ones (SKS, Enfleld). I went and got the Ruger .22 thinking I could practice with that easily and cheaply and so improve my abilility when it came to the heavier ones. Plus the rifle range is only open thu-sun, and the indoor range is open 7 days. Should get out to shoot the new  Ruger next week,

Since I haven't even fired the Enfield, and the ammo is not cheap, i'll probably bring my SKS. It shoots low and to the left but ordered a sight tool on ebay. Should be able to get it going before the Jam.

I'll get the 4th round now? Yeah, Sunday is fine, my flight back is not until Tuesday.

Looking forward to meeting you.

A note on the 10/22

I decided to experiment with mags, and so I got 1 metal 10-round mag that fits flush to the stock, 1 plastic of the same kind, 2 plastic 10-rounds that stick out like a normal mag, 1 7-round, and 1 25-round.

I recommend trying out all these different ones to see what works for you. I seem to like different ones in different ones in different circumstances. It may be nice to get some of the 50 round mags.

There are also some meetups in WA and MT this summer, so maybe some of you will show up to those.

Peace,
Max

I'm driving up Friday and staying in whatever campground Boston is setting up. Be
shooting on Sat and Sun with the RWVA and Monday with FSW. You see a green
pickup with a white shell over the bed, that's me.

BTW, I'm bringing beer.

Rifle champ and bringing beer?!!!! I may be in love, lol.

I plan to get a disposable cooler, so should have some also. Know any good local brews up there?

azcoyote,
Will you be shooting RWVA on Sunday? My mother wants to get some handgun training on Sunday if anyone is available.

Max,

I've been debating about signing up for the RWVA shoot. I'm really pretty inexperienced with long guns and not sure I'm ready to deal with something like that, timed fire, kneeling, prone, etc. I'm thinking along the lines of just shooting for fun and also getting lots of pointers too. I'm bringing the SKS and the Kel-tec Su-16, along with the .357 revolver (but will probably just shoot .38s thru it). Not sure about bringing the Taurus snubby as well, depends upon how much ammo I can bring/get.

I'd be happy to talk with your Mom. She might like the Kel-tec. It's pretty light and has very little recoil. She's welcome to try it out. Also the revolver if she wants. Notta prob. Hopefully, they will have room at the range for us.

Going to the range today to get the rifles sighted in--I hope.

Looking forward to this!

coyote-
At least for me and my father, we are going to RWVA because we have so little experience with long guns. Me in particular, I reckon why not learn from people who know what they are talking about? Should make going out to the range alone more productive.
