Mirror of Geocities version of Wolfe's Lodge
« on: September 04, 2003, 09:43:26 pm »

While looking for anything since 2000 written by Patricia Neill (which I didn't find, anybody know what's up with her?), I discovered that the old original Wolfe's Lodge, before Claire moved to curleywolfe.net, is still up at Geocities, though the index page has changed to a redirect to the new, now missing, site.

Since all the files are connected together, I managed to snarf them (except for Patricia's articles, which took a little more Googling, since that index page was also missing). I have put up a mirror at billstclair.com/lodge/.

I cut my liberty teeth on many of these essays. Debra's The Claire Files likely has all of Claire's essays from this site, but there's a lot more there, and the flashback to the past is also nice, for me.

Enjoy!

Very cool. I have all of Claire's stuff, but I didn't copy over any of the other essays.  I've had several people ask about them, so now I can point them to your site.  I'll add in a link this weekend. Thanks!

I discovered this morning that the curleywolfe.net version of the Lodge is available at archive.org. It's larger, and archive.org is very slow, but I'm going to start collecting that content, and, if successful, will eventually update my mirror to include the newer content.

Bill - thank you for the "heads up" on the old Lodge stuff.

Nice to see it again and reread the stuff we were writing for Y2K. Also nice that our worst fears werent realized, eh? But would "things" have been "better" if we had indeed started over again? And around & around she goes...

The old "Lodge" is available with original artwork/logos ( ever so slowly...) at Old Lodge Archive. In addition to "slow" it appears the archive is oft times swamped - a lot of "failed connections - try again later" messages.

Yow, I knew the Geocities version of the site was still around (somewhat to my horror: The Web Site that Wouldn't Die). But I had no idea the curleywolfe.net version was. It's definitely the better of the two. But I tell ya, the Web sometimes scares me.

I miss Patty Neill, too.  :(  But I did drop a note to her this morning, telling her about your site.

Patty was the best. For political humor, I'm not fit to crawl in her shadow. She keeps threatening to write again, but I don't know that she ever will.

Almost everything was at archive.org. It took a while to get it all, but I have done so. http://billstclair.com/lodge/ is now the version of the Lodge that used to be on curleywolfe.net as of 12/17/2001, the last date in the archive before the domain was snarfed by one of the domain name reapers.

The Geocities version is still up at billstclair.com/oldlodge, but I haven't linked to that anywhere, and I ask you to do the same so that the old versions of stories won't get confused with the newer ones in the search engines.

I've had a copy gleaned from Google's cache (which didn't store the graphics) online ever since curleywolfe.net went down.  It was intended solely for my own reference, since I assumed that if Claire wanted it off the net, who was I to (publicly) differ?  :-)  It's also been deliberately kept out of the search engines.

However, given that other copies are up (and announced), if anyone is missing anything, you can stop by www.virtue.org/cw to take a look and see if it's there.
